Highlights: Delhi records highest-ever spike of 7,745 Covid-19 cases in 24 hours

With 50,356 new Covid-19 infections and 577 fatalities reported on Saturday, India's total cases tally has gone past the 8.4 million mark, with a total of 8,462,080 cases and 125,562 deaths. As per numbers released by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, India's active cases currently stand at 516,632. Overall recoveries count in India sustained steadily after reaching 7,819,886 which is 53,920 new recoveries on Saturday.

Only ten states in India are contributing for more than 80% of the new recoveries and 79% of the new infections in the country, as per data.

Maharashtra continues to be the worst affected state in India with 103,007 active cases and 44,965 deaths, as on Saturday. It is followed by Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, Kerala and Delhi.

On the global front, the United States, again, continues to be the worst affected country with 116,780 cases reported in the last 24 hours. Hopes in the US now hinge on the new President elect Joe Biden, who has assured an action plan to control the coronavirus right from day-1. France had reported 60,235 cases in the same timeframe. Many countries in Europe are feeling the pinch of lockdowns again as infections keep rising across the continent.

J&K on Sunday recorded five deaths and 555 fresh coronavirus

Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday recorded five deaths and 555 fresh coronavirus infections taking the total Covid count to 98,892 and death toll to 1,533.

The officials said 342 people tested positive in Kashmir and 213 in Jammu. Three persons succumbed to the disease in Jammu and two in Kashmir.

A total of 1,015 people have succumbed to the disease in Kashmir and 518 in Jammu. So far 55 persons have lost their lives to the infection this month, reports news agency PTI.

Nagaland's Covid-19 recovery rate rises to 88.13 per cent

Nagaland on Sunday reported more Covid-19 recoveries than detection of fresh cases, as 101 patients were cured of the disease while 49 new infections pushed the state's tally to 9,474, a health department official said. The Covid-19 recovery rate in the state increased to an all time high of 88.13 per cent as a total of 8,350 people have recovered from the disease till Sunday. The previous highest recovery rate was 87.86 per cent on Friday, the official. The state now has 985 active Covid-19 patients.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray asked people not to lower their guards against Covid-19 and said that although the infection cases were going down in the state, the pandemic was far from over. He said several countries were facing the second wave of coronavirus now, but the state cannot afford to have another such wave. Thackeray said this while virtually performing the 'bhoomi pujan' ceremony of an art gallery in Mira Bhayandar township in Thane district of the state.

India donates ventilators to Nepal government

India has donated 28 ICU ventilators to the Nepal government to support its fight against the coronavirus pandemic, the Indian Embassy here said on Sunday. "Government of India has donated 28 Intensive Care Unit (ICU) ventilators to Nepal government to support in its fight against Covid – 19,” the embassy said in a statement. The ventilators were handed over by Indian Ambassador Vinay M Kwatra to Nepal's Minister for Health Bhanubhakta Dhakal, the statement said, reports news agency PTI.

Andhra Pradesh reports 2,237 fresh cases, 12 deaths

Andhra Pradesh logged 2,237 new coronavirus cases, taking the total infection count to 8,42,967, the state government said on Sunday. Twelve more people succumbed to the virus as the toll mounted to 6,791, a bulletin said. The state currently has 21,403 active cases after 2,256 patients recovered from the disease in the last 24 hours ended at 9 AM on Sunday.

Sri Lanka to lift capital district lockdown; warns people to be more vigilant

Sri Lankan government has said it will lift the ongoing capital district lockdown on Monday, warning people to be more vigilant to prevent a possible third wave of the Covid-19 pandemic. Mongolia reports 4 more Covid-19 cases

Mongolia registered four new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, which were all imported, the country's Health Ministry confirmed Sunday. Singapore PM says chances high for Covid-19 spike if restrictions are relaxed

Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong has said that the government has no plans to relax the restrictions and also said that doing so would increase the chances of spread for the coronavirus.
