Highlights: Delhi records highest-ever spike of 7,745 Covid-19 cases in 24 hours

With 50,356 new Covid-19 infections and 577 fatalities reported on Saturday, India's total cases tally has gone past the 8.4 million mark, with a total of 8,462,080 cases and 125,562 deaths. As per numbers released by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, India's active cases currently stand at 516,632. Overall recoveries count in India sustained steadily after reaching 7,819,886 which is 53,920 new recoveries on Saturday.

Only ten states in India are contributing for more than 80% of the new recoveries and 79% of the new infections in the country, as per data.

Maharashtra continues to be the worst affected state in India with 103,007 active cases and 44,965 deaths, as on Saturday. It is followed by Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, Kerala and Delhi.

On the global front, the United States, again, continues to be the worst affected country with 116,780 cases reported in the last 24 hours. Hopes in the US now hinge on the new President elect Joe Biden, who has assured an action plan to control the coronavirus right from day-1. France had reported 60,235 cases in the same timeframe. Many countries in Europe are feeling the pinch of lockdowns again as infections keep rising across the continent.

Covid-19 infections in France soar past 1.7 million cases, death toll rises above 40,000

The Public Health Agency in France has said that the total number of Covid-19 infections in the country stood at 1,748,705 cases with 40,000 fatalities. A record 86,852 cases have been reported since Friday. However the authorities are yet to confirm if the huge surge in cases are the numbers for the past 24 hours, reports news agency ANI.

Russia Covid-19 toll: 20,498 new cases reported, 286 deaths

Russia has reported 20,498 new infections on Sunday taking the country's Covid-19 tally to 1,774,334 cases. 286 new fatalities were also reported, rising the death toll to 30,537 in the country.

Georgia to be under lockdown as Covid-19 cases soar in major cities

People are prohibited to drive outside between 10pm and 5am in Tbilisi and other major cities as a new set of restrictions announced by the Georgian government comes into effect. Cases have soared in cities like Kutaisi, Batumi, Rustavi, Zugdidi, Gori and Poti as announced by Vice Prime Minister Maia Tskitishvili.

Emergency services are exempted and any violations would attract serious fines, the minister warned.

Georgia has reported a total of 54,852 Covid-19 cases and 441 fatalities with 2,859 cases on Saturday alone.

Israel to offer moderate relaxations to lockdown as recoveries continue to climb slowly

Israel's cabinet has decided to allow street stores to open as recoveries inch past new infections in the country. With 547 new coronavirus cases reported by the Israeli Ministry of Health on Saturday, total count reached 318,949 cases. 20 new fatalities were also reported that took the death toll to 2,664.

Active cases in Israel stand at 8,812. 583 new recoveries have been recorded and the total recoveries rose to 307,473 patients, reports news agency ANI.

Delhi health minister says third wave of Covid-19 worst in Delhi

Health minister of Delhi Satyendar Jain has said that the third wave of Covid-19 is the worst so far in Delhi and that the cases will soon begin to fall. He also mentioned that the high number of cases are due to aggressive testing and contact-tracing.

Repeating his earlier comments, he asked people to avoid carelessness and consider face masks to be the medicine for Covid-19 until an original vaccine is available.

Telengana records 1,440 new Covid-19 cases, five fatalities

Telengana State Health Department has said that 1440 new Covid-19 infections and five new deaths have been recorded, taking the total tally to 250,331 total cases and 1,377 deaths.

Total recoveries rose to 229,064 with 1481 new recoveries reported in the past 24 hours. Of all the active cases in Telengana, nearly 17,135 people are in home quarantine or institutional isolation.

The state has tested 4,618,470 samples currently of which 42,673 were tested on Saturday alone, reports news agency ANI.

Jharkhand: Total Covid-19 cases reach 104,239

A health department official from Jharkhand has said that the state has recorded 340 new infections, taking the total tally in the state to 104,239 cases. Two new fatalities have increased the state's death toll to 897, as reported by news agency PTI.

Germany's Covid-19 case tally reaches 658,505

Data released by Robert Koch Institute in Germany has confirmed that the country has recorded 16,017 cases on Sunday, taking the total toll to 658,505 cases.

Also, 63 new fatalities were reported and the total deaths now stand at 11,289 as reported by news agency Reuters.

Victoria state in Australia to relax lockdown restrictions, reports zero cases for nine consecutive days

After reporting zero new coronavirus infections for nine consecutive days, restrictions will be eased in the Victoria state in Australia as announced by its Premier Daniel Andrews.

Victoria, Australia's second most populous state was also the country's epicenter of the Covid-19 pandemic.
