Highlights: Delhi records highest-ever spike of 7,745 Covid-19 cases in 24 hours

With 50,356 new Covid-19 infections and 577 fatalities reported on Saturday, India's total cases tally has gone past the 8.4 million mark, with a total of 8,462,080 cases and 125,562 deaths. As per numbers released by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, India's active cases currently stand at 516,632. Overall recoveries count in India sustained steadily after reaching 7,819,886 which is 53,920 new recoveries on Saturday.

Only ten states in India are contributing for more than 80% of the new recoveries and 79% of the new infections in the country, as per data.

Maharashtra continues to be the worst affected state in India with 103,007 active cases and 44,965 deaths, as on Saturday. It is followed by Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, Kerala and Delhi.

On the global front, the United States, again, continues to be the worst affected country with 116,780 cases reported in the last 24 hours. Hopes in the US now hinge on the new President elect Joe Biden, who has assured an action plan to control the coronavirus right from day-1. France had reported 60,235 cases in the same timeframe. Many countries in Europe are feeling the pinch of lockdowns again as infections keep rising across the continent.

India reports 45,674 new Covid-19 cases, 559 deaths

With 45,674 new Covid-19 infections, India's total tally rose to 8,507,754 cases. 559 deaths have been reported in the last 24 hours and the total fatalities stand at 126,121, as per data from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
