Meghalaya reports two new Covid-19 cases
Meghalaya government on Friday said that two more people have tested positive for coronavirus in the state, reports news agency ANI.
Both are family members of the first COVID-19 patient, the state government said.
According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, there are seven coronavirus cases in Meghalaya including one death.
With 38 new cases, Rajasthan's total goes up to 1,169
Rajasthan reported 38 new Covid-19 cases on Friday, They include five in Jaipur,
Jodhpur-18, Jhunjhunu-1, Nagaur-2, Ajmer-1, Tonk-6, Jhalawar-1 and Kota-4. The total number of positive cases have now risen to 1,169 now in the state, said the state health department. : ANI
China revises up official coronavirus death toll to 4,636
China has revised its official count of deaths from the coronavirus, adding some 1,290 deaths in Wuhan, the city where the virus first emerged last December, reports Bloomberg.
The addition, reported by state media on Friday, brings the nationwide death toll to 4,636, the majority coming from Hubei province, where Wuhan is located.
The additional deaths were all counted in Wuhan and the late reporting of deaths are due to several reasons, said the report. The first is that some patients died at home without seeing a doctor or being tested for the virus as hospitals were overwhelmed during the epidemic’s peak.
Five more Covid-19 cases reported from Andhra's Srikalahasti Temple town
Five more coronavirus positive cases have been reported in Srikalahasti Temple town of Andhra Pradesh's Chittoor District. With this, total positive cases in Srikalahasti increased to 10. Of the five new cases, one woman is a contact of a positive case.: ANI
Uttarakhand to allow industrial activities from April 20
Uttarakhand government has decided to allow industrial activities in the state from April 20. It has also made wearing of facemasks compulsory in public places and banned the sale of liquor and tobacco products in the state. These decisions were taken in the meeting of the ministers at the residence of the chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat, which went on for two and a half hours.
Karnataka to buy 2 lakh rapid test kits for COVID-19 detection
The Karnataka government has announced the purchase of an additional two lakh rapid test kits for COVID-19 detection at a task force meeting on Thursday, reports ANI.
Home Minister Basavaraj Bommai and other senior officials were present at the task force meeting chaired by Deputy Chief Minister Dr CN Ashwathnarayan.
The Chinese government has agreed to supply rapid test kits to an officially listed company, which will increase the number of tests once it arrives, Ashwathnarayan said.
China's Wuhan city revises up total coronavirus death toll by 1,290
China's Wuhan city, the epicentre of the coronavirus outbreak, said on Friday it had revised up its total coronavirus death toll by 1,290, according to state-run CCTV, reports Reuters.
Wuhan also revised up confirmed cases by 325.

India's coronavirus cases climbed to 13,387, according to figures released by health ministry on Friday morning. These include 11,201 active cases, 437 fatalities, 1,748 cured / discharged patients and one migrated case.
The latest numbers show that there 1007 positive cases & 23 deaths have been reported in the last 24 hours.
Coronavirus pandemic turning into a 'child-rights crisis': UN Report
Children have so far largely escaped the most severe symptoms of COVID-19 but the social and economic impact “is potentially catastrophic for millions of children,” according to a U.N. report launched Thursday, reports AP.
It said COVID-19 is turning into “a broader child-rights crisis.”
“All children, of all ages, and in all countries, are affected,” it said. “However, some children are destined to bear the greatest costs.”
Those badly hit will be children living in slums, refugee and displacement camps, conflict zones, institutions and detention centers and youngsters with disabilities, the report said.
China says no plans to limit export of anti-virus supplies
China won't restrict exports of medical goods needed to fight the coronavirus pandemic, a government spokesman said, amid tension over scarce masks and ventilators, reports AP.
China, the biggest maker of surgical masks and other products, announced last week it would start inspecting exports following Western complaints that some Chinese virus test kits, masks and other products did not meet quality standards.
China's Q1 GDP posts first decline on record as virus shuts down economy
China's economy shrank 6.8% in January-March from a year earlier, official data showed on Friday, the first such decline since at least 1992 when quarterly gross domestic product (GDP) records began, reports Reuters.
The historic slump in the world's second-largest economy comes after efforts to contain the coronavirus, which first emerged in China late last year, shut down factories, transport and shopping malls.
The decline was larger than the 6.5% forecast by analysts in a Reuters poll and reverses a 6% expansion in the fourth quarter of 2019.
US coronavirus death toll passes 32,000: John Hopkins University
The confirmed coronavirus death toll in the United States reached 32,917 on Thursday, according to a tally by Johns Hopkins University, reports AFP.
The toll as of 8:30 pm (0030 GMT Friday) marked an increase of 4,491 deaths in the past 24 hours, by far the highest daily toll in the pandemic so far.
But the figure likely includes "probable" deaths related to COVID-19, which were not previously included.
Ulemas, Muftis appeal for offering Ramzan prayers at home during lockdown
Ulemas and Muftis from all schools of Islamic thoughts have appealed to the Muslim community to offer Taraveeh prayers at their homes, instead of going to the mosques, during the holy month of Ramzan while the nationwide lockdown imposed to prevent the further spread of COVID-19 is in place, reports ANI.
According to a press note of Jamia Nizamia, the Ulemas and Muftis have also urged people of the community to "partake Iftar at homes.. and not to host Iftar parties."
"Further, the Ulemas and Muftis have appealed to the people to follow the instructions given by the government to observe the lockdown. They should also follow the advice of health and medical experts and observe preventive measures, especially social distancing, strictly," the note read.

Britain's Prince Harry and his wife Meghan handed out meals to sick people in Los Angeles, in their first known public activity since moving to California at the start of the state's coronavirus lockdown, reports AFP.
