Nationwide containment zones still continue to be under the ambit of lockdown rule. Global death toll has surpassed 1,60,000 and 2.4 million continue to be affected. The United States, continues to be the nation most affected by coronavirus, recording more than 746,000 coronavirus cases and 40,000 deaths so far. US with 40,000 deaths and 700,000 cases has now become the epicentre of the coronavirus in the West.

Trump would be willing to give coronavirus aid to Iran if asked

US President Donald Trump said Sunday he would be willing to provide aid to Iran to help deal with the coronavirus pandemic if Tehran requested it, reports Reuters.

"If Iran needed aid on this, I would be willing," Trump said at a White House briefing.

NHAI resumes toll collection on national highways

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has resumed toll collection on national highways from today. It comes as India is slowly easing the restrictions brought in to contain the coronavirus pandemic from today in order to revive stalled economic activities.

The NHAI had suspended toll collection on all national highways after the 21-day nationwide lockdown was announced on March 24.

Telangana has extended lockdown period till May 7. The state cabinet on Sunday also decided not to give any relaxations to any sector from Monday, as against the Centre’s proposal to provide certain relaxations to various sectors.

China reports 12 new mainland coronavirus cases on April 19

China reported 12 new confirmed coronavirus cases on April 19, down from 16 a day earlier, with no new deaths, the country's health authority said on Monday, reports Reuters.

Of the total, eight were imported, down from nine on the previous day, the National Health Commission said in its daily bulletin.

US records 1,997 coronavirus deaths in 24 hours: Report

The number of coronavirus deaths in the United States rose by almost 2,000 in the past 24 hours to reach 40,661 on Sunday, a tally from Johns Hopkins University showed, reports news agency AFP.

The rise in deaths, by 1,997, is marginally above the 1,891 which Johns Hopkins data showed a day earlier for the previous 24-hour period to Saturday.

Selective relaxation in nationwide lockdown measures from today

In the first easing of lockdown measures for Covid-19, hotels in Kerala, highway dhabas in Haryana, tea gardens in West Bengal and mining in Jharkhand will be among the establishments that will open for business from today as states across India partially lift curbs as part of a staggered reopening of the economy. State governments are expecting 10 to 25% of industries to restart operations, multiple officials said on Sunday.
