Covid-19 highlights: Soldier from Ladakh tests positive for coronavirus

Coronavirus continues to rage across continents, crippling livelihoods and healthcare systems as new cases rise. The battle against covid-19 shifted to the Western hemisphere with many European countries imposing sharper restrictions on movement. 3 people have died due to coronavirus in India.

Air India on Tuesday announced temporary suspension of its entire services to Europe and the UK from March 19.

The global fight against coronavirus continues to rage as new cases continue to crop up from Europe. While India clocked 137 cases on Tuesday, Italy reported a new jump in cases as the total number of cases reached over 27,000. Spain became the fourth most infected country after Italy, Iran and China as it reported over 1,800 cases on Monday. Ukraine, Russia, Croatia and Switzerland along with most central and eastern European nations imposed sharp restrictions on domestic and foreign travel.


India has reported 3 deaths due to coronavirus. A 64-year-old patient from Maharashtra succumbed to the virus at Kasturba Hospital, Mumbai.


India also imposed new travel restriction on the EU nations, Turkey, Malaysia, Afghanistan and Philippines in order to contain the outbreak as cases rose to 126 nationwide. Japan’s Finance Minister Taro Aso said G7 ministers will hold a conference call to discuss measures to mitigate the impact of covid-19 on world’s economies.

Delhi Police, govt officials visit Shaheen Bagh, urge protestors to vacate in view of Coronavirus scare

Officials from police and Southeast district administration visited Shaheen Bagh on Tuesday to urge anti-CAA protestors to vacate the area in the wake of coronavirus outbreak.

The move comes a day after the Delhi government announced that any gathering – religious, family, social, political or cultural – of over 50 people will not be allowed in the national capital till March 31 in view of the coronavirus scare.

ISKCON shrines in Bengaluru to remain shut on COVID-19 threat

The International Society for Krishna Consciousness temples at Rajajinagar and Kanakapura Road here would remain closed from early morning of Wednesday till further notice.

The measure has been taken in view of COVID-19 outbreak in parts of India, an ISKCON statement said.

"However, temple worship and traditional temple 'sevas' to the deities will continue to be conducted privately by the resident priests of the temple," it said.

No treks to Sahyadri, forts amidst coronavirus outbreak

AkhilMaharashtra Giryarohan Mahasangh (AMGM) on Tuesday advised trekkers to avoid undertaking expeditions to the Sahyadri range and forts till March 31 in light of the coronavirus outbreak.

As many as 40 persons have tested positive for the deadly pathogen in Maharashtra.

"The AMGM requests all trekkers to follow instructions and stay safe at home. Visiting forts and organising treks may spread the virus in rural and remote areas, which could prove fatal," the mountaineering body stated in a release.

Coronavirus: Tourist activities at Corbett, Rajaji prohibited

Tourism activities in national parks and tiger reserves in Uttarakhand, including Corbett and Rajaji, were prohibited till March 31 on Tuesday as a precautionary measure against coronavirus, an official order said.

Tourism activities in national parks, wildlife sanctuaries, zoos and tiger reserves are closed from March 17 to March 31, said Chief Wildlife Warden Rajiv Bharatari in the order.

UP extends 'shutdown' till April 2

To contain the coronavirus spread, the Uttar Pradesh government on Tuesday extended the closure of all educational institutions, cinemas, mulitplexes and tourists places in the state till April 2.

Briefing reporters after a meeting of the UP Cabinet, minister Shrikant Sharma said, "Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed that all schools, colleges and educational institutes will remain closed till April 2." Competitive and other examinations too have been postponed till April 2.

The Union Health Ministry has recommended use of anti-HIV drug combinations Lopinavir and Ritonavir on a case-to-case basis depending upon the severity of the condition of a patient having coronavirus infection.

In its revised guidelines on the 'Clinical Management of COVID - 19' issued on Tuesday, the ministry recommended Lopinavir-Ritonavir for high-risk groups patients aged above 60, suffering from diabetes mellitus, renal failure, chronic lung disease and are immuno - compromised.

Dalai Lama Temple in Dharamshala closed for public due to coronavirus

The main Tibetan temple in Dharamshala has been closed for public in view of the coronavirus pandemic, the office of the Dalai Lama said on Tuesday.

Tsuglhakhang temple, which is situated in Dharamshala’s Mecleodganj area, is popular among tourists and Buddhists across the world.

“In view of the coronavirus ‘COVID-19’ outbreak as well as a precautionary measures by various Indian government including the imposition of section 144 by Kangra district administration, the main Tibetan temple (Tsuglhakhang) will be closed from tomorrow (Wednesday) until April 15 subject to further notice,” the office of the Dalai Lama said in a statement.
