While the rate of Covid-19 infections showed no sign of slowing down, the global number of infection surged past 15 million on Wednesday, as per the figures published by John Hopkins University.

The top five countries with the most cases include Brazil, India, Russia and South Africa and the United States topping the list by accounting for more than half the world’s infections and half its deaths.

MP cabinet minister tests positive for Covid-19

A cabinet Minister from Madhya Pradesh was admitted to the Chirayu Medical College and Hospital in Bhopal after he tested positive for Covid-19 a few hours earlier, reports ANI.


The Minister had attended a cabinet meeting the day before and also the funeral of Madhya Pradesh Governor Lalji Tandon on Tuesday.

India on Thursday reported highest ever spike in Covid-19 infections with 45,720 new cases, pushing the to 1,238,635. While 1,129 people succumbed to the viral disease.

India tested 1,50,75,369 Covid-19 samples tested up to July 22, informed Indian Medical Council of Research.

On Wednesday, total 3,50,823 samples were tested, it also said.

US reports more than 1,000 deaths for second consecutive day

The death toll due to Covid-19 in the United States rose by 1,000 new fatalities on Thursday. It was the second when the over 1,000 people succumbed to the virus.

The United States has not seen back-to-back days with over 1,000 lives lost since June 5-6. Weeks after cases began to surge, 23 states are now seeing fatalities also rise, according to a Reuters analysis of deaths for the past two weeks compared with the prior two weeks.

South Korea has reported 59 new confirmed Covid-19 cases following a dual rise in local transmissions and imported infections.

The figures by South Korea’s Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Thursday brought the national caseload to 13,938, including 297 deaths.

Australia: Victoria state reports third-highest daily rise in cases of infection

Australia's second most populous state of Victoria reported five deaths from the coronavirus (Covid-19) in the last 24 hours and logged the third-highest daily rise in infection.

Victoria recorded 403 new cases overnight, a day after posting its biggest one-day spike of 484 cases.

18 new cases of infection in China's Xinijiang

China continues to see newly confirmed coronavirus cases in its northwestern region of Xinjiang, with 18 reported Thursday.

More than 50 people have been infected in China’s latest outbreak focused on Xinjiang's regional capital and largest city of Urumqi.

An additional three confirmed cases brought from outside China were reported by the National Health Commission.

China has reported a total of 83,729 cases of Covid-19, with 4,634 deaths.

California surpasses New York in number of Covid-19 infection

California reported the highest number of coronavirus infections of any state, surpassing New York, as the pandemic continues to hammer the western state with nearly 415,000 confirmed cases.

State health officials said of the 413,576 people infected, 7,870 have died since the onset of the outbreak, with the virus killing 115 people on Tuesday alone.
