While the rate of Covid-19 infections showed no sign of slowing down, the global number of infection surged past 15 million on Wednesday, as per the figures published by John Hopkins University.
The top five countries with the most cases include Brazil, India, Russia and South Africa and the United States topping the list by accounting for more than half the world’s infections and half its deaths.

59 new Covid-19 cases in South Korea
South Korea has reported 59 new confirmed Covid-19 cases following a dual rise in local transmissions and imported infections.
The figures by South Korea's Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Thursday brought the national caseload to 13,938, including 297 deaths.
The agency says 43 of the new cases were in the densely populated Seoul area, which has been at the center of a virus resurgence since late May, reports AP.
Switzerland adds 15 more countries to quarantine list
Swiss authorities have added another 15 countries, including Mexico and Luxembourg, to their list of nations facing increased risk of Covid-19 infection from which travellers entering Switzerland will be required to undergo a 10-day quarantine.
There are now 42 countries on the quarantine list, based on per capita outbreak levels over the last two weeks.
Hong Kong reports daily record of 118 Covid-19 cases
Hong Kong reported 118 new coronavirus cases on Thursday, a daily record, including 111 locally transmitted cases, adding to a deluge of new infections that have hit the global financial hub in the past two weeks.
Hong Kong extended strict social distancing measures on Wednesday as authorities reported 105 locally transmitted infections.
Himachal Pradesh CM to remain quarantined for 1 week
Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur, his family members and staffers at his residence and office will remain under home quarantine for a week despite testing negative for Covid-19, a senior official said on Thursday.
Thirty-six samples were taken from Thakur's residence at Oakover and 27 from the state secretariat on Wednesday after a deputy secretary at his office and a BJP leader from Mandi tested positive for Covid-19.

Eighty-four personnel deployed in Tamil Nadu Raj Bhavan test positive for Covid-19
Eighty-four security and fire services personnel deployed in Raj Bhavan have tested positive for Covid-19 but none of them came into contact with Governor Banwarilal Purohit or senior officials, the government said here on Thursday.
As few men posted at Raj Bhavan showed symptoms, testing was done for 147 personnel and 84 of them, comprising security and fire service staffers, were found positive for coronavirus, a Raj Bhavan release said.

Demand for Covid-19 tests higher than industry can supply: Roche chief
The world needs to become more judicious about how it uses Covid-19 tests because there still aren’t enough to go around, Roche's chief said on Thursday.
Demand for tests is higher than the industry can supply and that may continue for months, Severin Schwan, the chief executive officer of Roche Holding AG, warned.
“We even had governments that flew in with military planes to pick up instruments because they were in such need,” Thomas Schinecker, head of the diagnostics unit, said in reference to some of the testing components Roche sells.
Don't panic, get tested: MP cabinet minister warns after testing Covid-19 positive
Cabinet Minister of the Madhya Pradesh government Arvind Singh Bhadoria on Thursday released a video from the hospital here where he was admitted after testing positive for Covid-19.
In the video, he said that he got tested for the virus after suffering from a sore throat.
"I do not have any symptoms of Covid-19 at the moment. I had a sore throat yesterday so got myself tested. I request all the people who have come in contact with me in the last few days to get tested, there is no need to panic," he said in the clip.
Pakistan's Covid-19 tally nearing 170,000-mark
1,763 more people tested positive for coronavirus in Pakistan on Thursday, taking the total number of cases in the country to 169,191. With 32 fatalities in the last 24 hours, the death toll has reached 5,709, reports PTI.
Puducherry's Covid-19 tally nearing 2,500
Government of Puducherry said that the Union Territory registered 2,420 cases and 33 deaths due to the novel coronavirus outbreak. Out of the total cases, 987 are active cases while 1,400 have been discharged so far, reports ANI.

Odisha logs highest ever single day spike of 1,246 Covid-19 cases
Odisha on Thursday registered its highest ever single day spike of more than 1,200 coronavirus cases. The total cases in the state have now crossed 21,000 and the death toll is at 114, reports PTI.
