On Monday, India added 82,170 cases and 1,039 deaths due to the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) disease which pushed the tally to over six million, as per the Union health ministry’s dashboard. The active cases have climbed to 962,640 whereas over five million people have recovered so far. Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Uttar Pradesh continue to be the five worst-affected states. Globally, the number of deaths has crossed one million mark in a caseload of 33.3 million, a worldometers data shows. United States, India, Brazil and Russia continue to be the four worst-affected countries while Colombia has overtaken fellow Latin American country Peru to be the fifth worst-hit. Spain, Mexico, Argentina and South Africa complete the list of the ten worst-hit countries.

Canada's Quebec expected to announce new restrictions amid surge in Covid-19 cases
Quebec, the Canadian province hardest hit by the novel coronavirus, reported another sharp increase in daily infections on Monday, amid media reports that Premier Francois Legault would announce new restrictions for Montreal and capital Quebec City, reports Reuters.
Gujarat records 1,404 new Covid-19 cases, 1,336 recoveries
As many as 1,404 fresh cases of coronavirus emerged in Gujarat in the last 24 hours, taking its tally to 134,623 on Monday, while 1,336 people recovered from the infection, the state's health department said. A release by the department said 12 also died across the state during the same period, taking the toll to 3,431, reports PTI.
Spain reports 31,785 new coronavirus cases since Friday
Spain's tally of confirmed coronavirus cases reached 748,266 on Monday, rising by 31,785 from Friday's total, health ministry data showed. The cumulative death toll reached 31,411 from 31,232 on Friday, reports Reuters.
Bengal govt issues notification announcing norms to be followed in Durga Puja pandals amid Covid crisis
The West Bengal government on Monday issued a notification asking Durga Puja committees to follow Covid-19 safety protocols and set up open pandals where visitors cannot enter without masks. The notification came up four days after Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee listed safety guidelines along similar lines for the puja committees, reports PTI.

Madhya Pradesh's Covid-19 tally climbs to 124,166, death toll at 2,242
Madhya Pradesh recorded 1,957 new Covid-19 cases and 35 deaths on Monday, taking the overall tally to 124,166 which includes 21,980 active cases, 99,944 recoveries, 2,242 deaths, reports ANI.
Kenya extends Covid-19 curfew for 2 months but reduces hours
Kenya's President Uhuru Kenyatta extended for two months on Monday a nationwide curfew intended to curb the coronavirus, but relaxed the starting time by two hours until 11 p.m. The country has recorded 38,115 cases of the virus and 691 deaths since its first case on March 13, reports Reuters.
Zimbabwe begins gradual reopening of schools amid Covid-19 crisis
Zimbabwe’s schools Monday reopened for pupils in two grades as part of a gradual process that will see all pupils return to class by early November. But many teachers did not report for work, as their union demanded that the government should first pay them a Covid-19 allowance and improve their salaries and working conditions, reports AP.
Delhi registers 1,984 Covid-19 cases, 37 deaths in last 24 hours
Delhi's Covid-19 tally mounted to 273,098 after 37 deaths and 1,984 fresh were reported in the last 24 hours. The total cases include 27,123 active cases, 240,703 recoveries and 5,272 deaths, the state's health department said, reports ANI.

Manipur's Covid-19 tally climbs to 10,477; recoveries nearing 8,000
As many as 178 people tested positive for Covid-19 in Manipur, taking the total number of cases in the state to 10,477 which includes 2,431 active cases, 7,982 recoveries and 64 deaths, reports ANI.

Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has ordered closure of all shops after 10 pm on 27 busy roads in the city in view of a steady rise in new Covid-19 cases and violation of norms by residents of certain localities, reports PTI.

Kerala’s Covid-19 tally nearing 180,000; 4,538 fresh cases logged
4,538 more people tested positive for Covid-19 in Kerala, taking the total number of cases in the state to 179,922 which includes 57,879 cases and 697 deaths, chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan said. He added that the government has called an all-party virtual meet tomorrow to discus the Covid-19 situation in the state, reports ANI.

Jharkhand education minister Jagarnath Mahto tests positive for Covid-19
Jharkhand education minister Jagarnath Mahto on Monday said he tested positive for Covid-19 and has been admitted to Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Ranchi. The minister also appealed to all those who came in contact with him in the last few days to get themselves tested, reports PTI.
At least four senior European Union officials in self-isolation
The coronavirus has forced at least four senior EU officials into self-isolation in recent days. EU council president Charles Michel went into quarantine last week and EU commission spokeswoman Dana Spinant said Monday that three members of the college of commissioners also went into self-isolation 'by prudence', reports AP.
