Highlights: Night curfew in Maharashtra from December 22 to January 5

Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal has urged the Centre to ban all flights from the UK after the emergence of a new strain of coronavirus which spreads far more quickly than usual.

Puducherry reported 14 new coronavirus infections, taking the union territory's active case tally to 332. The death toll rose to 627 after one new fatality. 26 were discharged.

Thane recorded 403 new coronavirus infections, taking the district's tally to 2,38,931. Seven new fatalities meant that the death toll grew to 5,878.

The Andaman and Nicobar islands recorded six new coronavirus cases, taking the union territory's caseload to 4,881.

Germany reported 16,643 new coronavirus infections, taking the country's tally to 1,510,652. The death toll rose to 26,275 after 226 new fatalities.
