Covid-19 Highlights: India switches off lights; diyas, candles lit at PM's call

People across India on Sunday switched off lights in their homes and instead lit earthen lamps, candles for nine minutes at 9 PM in response to prime minister Modi's call to mark fight against coronavirus.

The total number of Covid-19 cases in the country rose to 3,577 by Sunday evening. Of these, there were 3,219 active cases, 83 deaths, 274 cured / discharged and one migrated case, according to the health ministry.

Responding to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's call, people across the country switched off lights in their homes at 9 pm for nine minutes and lit earthen lamps, candles or switched on the torches and mobile phone lights in a show of solidarity in fight against the coronavirus pandemic.

690 Covid-19 patients in Maharashtra till now: Health Minister

The current count of Covid-19 patients in Maharashtra is 690, state health minister Rajesh Tope said on Sunday. "Till now, Mumbai has reported 29 cases, Pune 17, PCMC 4, Ahmednagar 3, and Aurangabad 2- in all, 55 people have been newly identified as positive for Covid-19," he said.

"Till date, 56 people have been cured and discharged from the hospital, the minister said.
