In the first session of the sixth day of the Hindustan Times Leadership Summit 2020, finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman spoke elaborately on India's economic recovery, inflation, Covid-19 vaccine and Budget. On allocating funds for Covid-19 vaccines in Budget, the finance minister said the ministry needs to know more details of the vaccine, whichever gets the nod — the cost per dose, the requirement of doses etc.
In the second session Federico Marchetti, chairman and CEO of Yoox Net-a-Porter, an Italian online fashion retailer, spoke to Shereen Bhan, managing editor, CNBC TV-18 about the evolving face of fashion, online retail and 'entertailing' a term he coined to imply that online retail needs to incorporate entertainment as well.
In the third session, Hindustan Times' health and science editor Sanchita Sharma interviewed Dr David A Sinclair, co-director, Pail F Glenn Centre for Biology of Aging Research, Harvard Medical School, who gave out some handy tips to fight ageing.
This is the first time, the summit is being held virtually owing to the Covid-19 pandemic situation. And in tune with the situation, 'Defining a New Era' has been chosen this year's theme. From politics to sports, from medicine to education and food — the summit has seen a wide array of views coming from the experts of the respective fields on post-pandemic world.
One can start anti-ageing measures in their 30s: David Sinclair
"Around age of 30, ageing start to kick in. It is at that time when not everything goes well in your system," Sinclair said.
Why should we say we must accept ageing? Dr David Sinclair
"Just because it is common, there is no reason to accept it as inevitable. I am not saying we will live forever. But can we extend life by another five and 10 years? Absolutely," said Sinclair.

"In young people, cells and genes work beautifully, like a piano. In older people, it's like the pianist is playing very unpleasant sounds," Sinclair said.

Cases of dementia increasing in countries where lifespan is more: David A Sinclair

"Animal studies that have been going on for the last 20 years showed that we can compress the last few years of life and remain productive. Older the population gets, it's harder for the younger generation to look after them," Dr David A Sinclair said.

Finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman said on Friday that the Centre has given a lot of thought to the farm laws which were passed by Parliament in September. She also expressed happiness that the government has taken steps to resolve the impasse over these laws, which has led to protest by farmers near Delhi.
