With 591 new Covid-19 cases reported since Wednesday, India's coronavirus count has gone up to 5,865, according to the latest figures released by the Union health ministry on Thursday. Of these, 169 patients succumbed to the virus while 477 people have recovered and been discharged.
On the diplomatic front, India has begun sending consignments of life-saving drugs as gifts to neighbouring countries to help them fight the coronavirus pandemic, South Block officials said on Thursday. Officials said the government was sending drugs to Bhutan, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Nepal, Myanmar, Seychelles, Mauritius and some African countries. One of the early consignments, an Air India plane with 10 tonnes of medicine, was sent to Sri Lanka on Tuesday.
A Bloomberg report says that 1.5 million people around the world are infected by Covid-19. More than 3,25,000 people have recovered from coronavirus but the death toll has surpassed 85,000.

Doctors from private and government told Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren told to extend the lockdown to prevent further infections in the state. “There is a possibility of quick spread of the virus if the lockdown ends. Social distancing is the best safety measure. We have to give our best effort given our limited resources,” the doctors stated.

A 15-year-old boy from the Yanomami people has contracted Covid-19 in Brazil, The Yanomami people are remotely contacted tribe from the Amazon. They are known for their remoteness. They are also highly vulnerable to foreign diseases. Brazil health minister told AFP, ""We have to be triply cautious with (indigenous) communities, especially the ones that have very little contact with the outside world."
Sexagenarian in Jammu dies due to Covid-19
A 61-year-old woman from Jammu died due to coronavirus in Udhampur. This is the first death from Jammu region.
Tamil Nadu district hospital releases 4 coronavirus patients
In Vilupuram, a district hospital wrongly gave out Covid-19 negative certificates to 4 patients. 3 of those have been traced, one patient who belongs to Delhi is yet to be found. "Test results of 26 patients had come in the evening, out of which four were positive. Later by mistake, these four patients were given negative certificates," said S Jayakumar, Villupuram Superintendent of Police told ANI.

China reports 63 new cases of coronavirus
China has reported 61 imported cases of Covid-19 and two native cases but none of them were from hard-hit Hubei province, China's National Health Commission reported.

Resident doctors assaulted in Delhi, 44-year-old man arrested
Two women resident doctors stationed at Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi faced an assault by a man who blamed them for spreading Covid-19. The two doctors, who are not on Covid-19 duty, were out to buy essential items when a man came and twisted their wrists asking them to stay away from markets.

Jharkhand reports rise in coronavirus cases
4 fresh coronavirus cases were reported from capital Ranchi and one case was reported from Bokaro. The total number of Covid-19 cases in the city is now 9.
