Global toll nears 700,000-mark
Covid-19 cases in India have surpassed the 1.85 million mark while the toll has risen to 38,938.
As of Tuesday, there were 586,298 active cases in the country while 1,230,509 people have recovered from the coronavirus disease, according to the Union ministry of health and family welfare’s dashboard.

Bringing hope, Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) director-general Balram Bhargava said that three of India’s Covid-19 vaccine candidates are progressing well. He said that phase II/III clinical trials for the recombinant Oxford University vaccine candidate will begin within a week at 17 sites across the country.
The global virus tally has soared past 18.45 million while the toll is nearing 700,000, according to Johns Hopkins University's tally. The US continues to be the hardest hit nation followed by Brazil and India.

TV viewing surges in Britain amid lockdown
Britons spent 40% of their day watching TV and online video during the lockdown period, research by Ofcom showed.
Adults, who were advised by the government in late March to stay at home, spent on average six hours and 25 minutes a day watching news and entertainment, Ofcom said, a rise of almost a third on the same month a year ago.
According to the report, people also spent twice as long watching streaming services like Netflix, Disney+ and Amazon Prime Video.

Novavax coronavirus vaccine induces immune response in early study
Novavax Inc said on Tuesday its experimental Covid-19 vaccine produced high levels of antibodies against the coronavirus disease, according to initial data from a small, early-stage clinical trial.
The firm said it could start a large pivotal Phase III trial as soon as late September, and added that it could produce 1 billion to 2 billion doses of the vaccine in 2021.
