India's caseload of the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) is currently at 9,644,222 after the Union health ministry on Saturday reported that the country had logged a total of 36,011 new infections in the previous 24 hours. While death toll mounts to 140,182 with 482 new deaths. Total active cases stand at 4,03,248.

On Saturday, a plea was filed in the Supreme Court seeking a direction to the Centre to ensure refund of “exorbitant” amounts charged by private labs and hospitals for conducting RT-PCR tests to detect Covid-19.

The United States now has 14,772,535 coronavirus cases with 285,550 deaths. Number of recovered cases in the US stands at 8,658,882.

More than 65.19 million people have been infected by the novel coronavirus globally and 1,511,680​ have died.

Britain gets ready for roll-out of Pfizer’s Covid-19 vaccine this week

Britain is preparing to become the first country to roll out the Pfizer/BioNTech Covid-19 vaccine this week, initially making the shot available at hospitals before distributing stocks to doctors’ clinics, the government said on Sunday.

The first doses are set to be administered on Tuesday, with the National Health Service (NHS) giving top priority to vaccinating the over-80s, frontline healthcare workers and care home staff and residents. Britain gave emergency use approval for the vaccine developed by Pfizer and BioNTech last week - jumping ahead in the global race to begin the most crucial mass inoculation programme in history. Portugal to ease Covid-19 restrictions during Christmas, but not for New Year, says PM

Portuguese citizens will be able to travel between the country's municipalities during the Christmas holidays with certain limitations, but not during New Year festive season, Prime Minister Antonio Costa announced on Saturday at a press conference. On Friday, Portugal's parliament voted to extend the coronavirus-related state of emergency, which was in effect since November 9, until December 23, with the outlook to pass another 15-day extension until January 7.

Mainland China reports 18 new Covid-19 cases

Mainland China reported 18 new Covid-19 cases up from 17 cases from a day earlier, the country's national health authority said on Sunday. The National Health Commission said in a statement that 17 of the new cases were imported infections. The number of new asymptomatic cases, which China does not classify as confirmed cases, fell to 2 from 12 a day earlier. The number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in Mainland China stands at 86,619. The death toll remained unchanged at 4,634.

Peru registers 2,014 new Covid-19 cases, 970,860 in total

Peru confirmed on Friday 2,014 new Covid-19 cases, bringing its total caseload to 970,860, according to the country's health ministry. The ministry also announced 91 new deaths from the virus, and the death toll in this country went up to 36,195.
