The ongoing monsoon session of Parliament has entered its ninth day. On Monday, eight opposition MPs were suspended from the Rajya Sabha for the remainder of the monsoon session for disorderly conduct during protests against two controversial farm bills on Sunday.
On Tuesday morning, Rajya Sabha deputy chairman Harivansh met the protesting MPs and offered them tea which they refused. The chairman also decided to observe one-day fast against the unruly behaviour with him by these MPs. In a letter to vice president Venkaiah Naidu, who is also the chairperson of the Upper House, he said he was ‘unable to sleep’ for two nights due to Sunday’s unprecedented chaos in the House.
Meanwhile, Leader of opposition and Congress Rajya Sabha MP Ghulam Nabi Azad said that suspension of eight MPs who protested against the farm bills should be restored.
The opposition today will oppose three upcoming labour reforms- The Occupational Safety, Health And Working Conditions Code, 2020, The Industrial Relations Code, 2020 and the Code on Social Security 2020 which will be tabled by union labour minister Santosh Gangwar.
The occupational safety, health and working conditions bill sets standards for health and safety norms for organizations; the Industrial relations bill talks about the scope of trade unions and the code on social security aims to create a network of social security for all workers.
Opposition stage walkout from Rajya Sabha, protest in Parliament premises
Opposition leaders staged a walk-out from the Rajya Sabha and held a protest before the Gandhi statue in Parliament premises on Tuesday. Parliamentarians from Congress, AAP, Shiv Sena, TMC, CPI(M) boycotted the house demanding revocation of suspension of the eight MPs. Meanwhile, the dharna which was being staged by the suspended Rajya Sabha MPs ended after the Opposition members boycotted the house, reports ANI.

Not happy about suspension of MPs, says Naidu
Rajya Sabha chairman M Venkaiah Naidu said that he was not happy about members being suspended from the upper house adding that the house has nothing against any member, reports ANI.

Opposition leaders stage walked-out from Rajya Sabha on Tuesday and are protesting before the Gandhi statue inside Parliament premises, demanded the revocation of suspended MPs. Earlier Congress RS MP Ghulam Nabi Azad said that opposition will boycott the session if the demands of revocation of suspendes MPs and the introduction of a bill by the government to bring another bill under which no private player can purchase below MSP are not met, reports ANI.

The eight opposition Rajya Sabha members who were suspended for continuing with their protests against farm bills stayed overnight on Parliament lawns in a sit-in protest have said that they will withdraw protest depending upon the proceedings inside the House on Tuesday, reports ANI.

Suspended MPs on sit-in protest, refuse tea from Rajya Sabha deputy chairman
Deputy Chairman Harivansh arrived this with morning tea for the eight opposition members who had spent the night on the lawns of Parliament as part of their indefinite protest after being suspended yesterday over unruly scenes against farm bills inside the Upper House. However, the suspended MPs refused to take tea from Harivansh, reports ANI.
