Highlights: Italy reports 8,913 new Covid-19 cases, 305 deaths
Couple living in Durham, Ontario, with no prior history of travel are the first known cases of the new coronavirus strain in Canada.
India recorded 18,732 new cases in the last 24 hours. The lowest daily increase since the month of July. The total case load currently stands at 10,187,850. 279 fatalities were also recorded in the past 24 hours, the death toll remained below 300 for the second day running. For the past 14 days the Union health ministry has been recording fewer than 30,000 cases every day. As per ministry data, at 95.78% India's cumulative recovery rate is also one of the highest in the world.

The European Union is all set to begin vaccinating against the coronavirus. The first shipments of the Pfizer vaccine arrived in Europe and cross border vaccination drive is scheduled to begin from Sunday. This news comes as the new strain of coronavirus first detected in the UK has now reportedly spread to Sweden, France, Spain joining the growing list of countries where the mutated strain has now been detected.

Germany records 13,755 fresh cases of the coronavirus
Germany recorded 13,755 new cases of Covid-19 (coronavirus) on Thursday, taking the nation-wide tally to 1,640,858, according to the Robert Koch Institute. The country-wide death tally also reportedly rose by 356 to 29,778.
Germany also reported its first case of the new coronavirus strain, in a woman who had flown in from Britain.
