India’s count of cases of the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) is at 9,499,413 after the Union health ministry on Wednesday reported 36,604 new infections in the preceding 24 hours. Phase 3 clinical trial of Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin, India’s first indigenous Covid-19 vaccine, meanwhile, started in two more states: Karnataka and West Bengal. Covaxin is India’s first Covid-19 vaccine to reach phase 3 trials; these trials are also the largest Covid-19 vaccine trials being conducted in India.
The United Kingdom on Wednesday became the first country to authorise a Covid-19 vaccine as it gave approvals for use of Pfizer-BioNTech SE’s vaccine candidate, before the United States and the rest of Europe. UK’s Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) granted emergency use approval to the vaccine candidate, which was found to be 95% effective in its clinical trials.

France's PM says Covid-19 vaccines will be free for all
French Prime Minister Jean Castex said on Thursday it was "a matter of weeks" before the country will start rolling out Covid-19 vaccinations and that they will be free for all.
Castex also told a news conference that the vaccinations would be deployed in three phases.
Covid-19 situation in Delhi under control, cases going down: Kejriwal

Nepal's Covid-19 cases reach 237,589
Nepal's Covid-19 caseload has reached 237,589 with 1,343 new cases in the last 24 hours, the Ministry of Health and Population said on Thursday.
With the death of 13 people, the country's death toll has reached 1,551, it said.
UK's Covid-19 death toll surpasses 60,000
The United Kingdom's total death toll from Covid-19 surpassed 60,000 on Thursday, by the government's preferred measure of deaths within 28 days of a positive test.
Official daily data showed that 414 new deaths were reported, taking the total since the start of the pandemic to 60,113.
US virus deaths top 3,100 in a single day for the first time
The US recorded over 3,100 Covid-19 deaths in a single day, obliterating the record set last spring, while the number of Americans hospitalized with the virus has eclipsed 100,000 for the first time and new cases have begun topping 200,000 a day, according to figures released Thursday.
3,734 fresh cases in Delhi
Delhi's daily number of infection continued to hover below 4,000 as it recorded 3,734 fresh cases of infection on Thursday. While 4,834 others recovered in the last 24 hours.
The total caseload in the state is now at 5,82,058. Death toll is at 9,424.
More than 1,400 fresh cases in Tamil Nadu
Tamil Nadu on Thursday reported 1,416 fresh cases of Covid-19 and 14 new fatalities. While the number of peple discharged in the last 24 hours was at 1,413.
Total number of confirmed cases in the state now stands at 7,86,163. While the death toll has reached 11,747.

Turkey’s health minister has announced a vaccination plan starting with an experimental “inactivated vaccine” later this month to combat the Covid-19 pandemic amid a surge in infections and deaths, reports AP.
AIIMS Director says booster dose of Covid shot to protect for long
Once booster dose is given, vaccine will give good amount of anti-body production & will start giving protection. This will last for many months giving protection for a significant time when numbers will be less. We need to see type of immunity vaccine gives, said Dr Randeep Guleria, reports ANI.
