India’s count of cases of the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) reached 9,932,547 on Wednesday after the Union health ministry reported that the country had logged 26,382 new infections in the preceding 24 hours. Significantly, the number of recoveries are at 9.45 million while active cases are just above 332,000. Maharashtra continues to be the worst-hit state, with nearly 1.9 million cases thus far, followed by Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Kerala.

Globally, the Food and Drug Administration in the United States, which has started administering shots of Pfizer Inc’s vaccine candidate, on Tuesday said vaccine candidate of Moderna, too, was “safe and effective.” Use of Pfizer’s vaccine candidate for emergency cases has also started in the United Kingdom, which last week became the first country to do so, and the US’ northern neighbour Canada.

Maharashtra reports 4,304 new cases, 95 deaths
Maharastra on Wednesday reported 4,304 new Covid-19 infections and 95 new fatalities taking the state's tally to 1,880,893 total cases and 48,434 deaths.
4,678 patients were discharged on Wednesday taking the total recoveries to 1,769,897 patients. The state currently has 61,454 active cases, reports ANI.
Himachal Pradesh reports 484 new Covid-19 infections, total reaches 50,680 cases
Himachal Pradesh's Covid-19 tally reached 50,680 cases after reporting 484 new infections. A total of 43,577 patients have recovered in the state and the death toll stands at 836 patients, reports ANI.

Covaxin's phase 1 trial results show no serious adverse events
Bharat Biotech has released the released the phase 1 trial results of Covaxin, the company's Covid-19 vaccine developed with Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).
"The vaccine was well tolerated in all dose groups with no vaccine-related serious adverse events. The most common adverse event was pain at the injection site, which resolved spontaneously," said a pre-print document as quoted by news agency ANI.
Manipur reports 81 new cases, two deaths
Manipur reported 81 new coronavirus infections, taking the state's tally to 27,373 including 1,937 active cases. The death toll after two new fatalities stands at 329 and the total number of recoveries is 25,107 after 227 new ones.
Tamil Nadu reports 1,181 new cases, 12 deaths
Tamil Nadu reported 1,181 new Covid-19 cases taking the state's tally to 8,02,342 including 9,880 active cases. 12 new fatalities took the death toll to 11,931. Total number of discharges after 1,240 new ones stands at 7,80,531.
Kerala reports 6,185 new cases, 5,728 recoveries
Kerala reported 6,185 new coronavirus infections, taking the state's active case tally to 58,184. 5,728 recoveries meant that total recoveries in the state stood at 6,22,394.
Gujarat reports 1,160 new cases, 10 deaths
Gujarat reported 1,160 new Covid-19 cases, taking the state's tally to 2,31,073. Death toll after 10 new fatalities stood at 4,203.

The national capital reported 1,547 new coronavirus infections, taking the total caseload to 6,11,994 including 13,261 active cases. 2,734 took the total number of recoveries to 5,88,586 while the death toll after 32 deaths is now at 10,147.

Karnataka reported 1,240 new coronavirus infections, taking the state's tally to 9,04,665 including 15,476 active cases. 1,403 discharges took the total number of discharges to 8,77,199 and the death count after six new fatalities stood at 11,971.
Andhra Pradesh reports 478 new cases, three deaths
Andhra Pradesh reported 478 new coronavirus cases taking the sate's tally to 8,76,814 including 4,420 active cases. 715 new recoveries meant that total number of recoveries stood at 8,65,327. Death toll rose to 7,067 after three new fatalities.
Puducherry reports 32 new cases, one death
Puducherry reported 32 new coronavirus infections, taking the union territory's tally to 37,582 including 299 active cases. The death toll stands at 622 after one new fatality.

Odisha reports 407 new cases, five deaths
Odisha reported 407 new coronavirus infections, taking the state's tally to 3,24,796. Death toll rose to 1,820 after five new fatalities.
UP records 1,227 new cases, 15 deaths
Uttar Pradesh recorded 1,227 new ovid-19 cases, taking the state's overall tally to 5.69 lakh including 17,801 active cases. Death toll currently stands at 8,118 after 15 new fatalities.
Have vaccinated 137,897 people against Covid: UK Minister
Nearly 140,000 people in the United Kingdom have been vaccinated against Covid-19 in the first week of roll-out of the shot developed by Pfizer and BioNTech, the minister in charge of deployment of the vaccine said on Wednesday, as per Reuters.
