India’s count of cases of the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) reached 9,932,547 on Wednesday after the Union health ministry reported that the country had logged 26,382 new infections in the preceding 24 hours. Significantly, the number of recoveries are at 9.45 million while active cases are just above 332,000. Maharashtra continues to be the worst-hit state, with nearly 1.9 million cases thus far, followed by Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Kerala.

Globally, the Food and Drug Administration in the United States, which has started administering shots of Pfizer Inc’s vaccine candidate, on Tuesday said vaccine candidate of Moderna, too, was “safe and effective.” Use of Pfizer’s vaccine candidate for emergency cases has also started in the United Kingdom, which last week became the first country to do so, and the US’ northern neighbour Canada.

Maharashtra reports 4,304 new cases, 95 deaths

Maharastra on Wednesday reported 4,304 new Covid-19 infections and 95 new fatalities taking the state's tally to 1,880,893 total cases and 48,434 deaths.

4,678 patients were discharged on Wednesday taking the total recoveries to 1,769,897 patients. The state currently has 61,454 active cases, reports ANI.

Himachal Pradesh's Covid-19 tally reached 50,680 cases after reporting 484 new infections. A total of 43,577 patients have recovered in the state and the death toll stands at 836 patients, reports ANI.

Covaxin's phase 1 trial results show no serious adverse events

Bharat Biotech has released the released the phase 1 trial results of Covaxin, the company's Covid-19 vaccine developed with Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).

"The vaccine was well tolerated in all dose groups with no vaccine-related serious adverse events. The most common adverse event was pain at the injection site, which resolved spontaneously," said a pre-print document as quoted by news agency ANI.
