India reported 23,067 new Covid-19 infections on Friday taking the total tally of cases in the country to 10,146,845. For the past 12 days, India has been recording less than 30,000 daily new cases. Although, the new strain of Covid-19 detected in the United Kingdom has become a cause of concern in the country, union health minister Harsh Vardhan said on Monday that there is no need to panic. “The government is fully conscious about everything. If you ask me, there is no reason to panic," he said.

States have started implementing stricter rules to curb the new strain of Covid-19. As many as 1,206 passengers landed at the Mumbai international airport from Europe and the Middle- East on Thursday and 788 of them were quarantined in the city. The Ghaziabad administration has established a dedicated wing inside the integrated Covid-19 control room to treat people who have returned from the UK and Europe. At least 12 passengers returning from the UK tested positive in Goa and Maharashtra, officials said. In Meghalaya, entry of individuals from the UK into the state has been barred.
In the United States last week, someone died from Covid-19 every 33 seconds. More than 18,000 lives were lost to the virus in the seven days ending December 20, according to a Reuters analysis. More than 1 million people have already received their first shot of a Covid-19 vaccine in the US. "With cases of Covid-19 continuing to surge nationwide, this achievement comes at a critical time and will help to protect those on the frontlines -- our healthcare providers treating Covid-19 patients -- as well as our most vulnerable: elder individuals living in nursing homes and assisted living facilities," CDC Director Dr. Robert Redfield said.

Germany's confirmed coronavirus cases rise by 25,533
The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Germany increased by 25,533 to 1,612,648, data from the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) for infectious diseases showed on Friday. The reported death toll rose by 412 to 29,182, the tally showed.
Telangana adds 518 new Covid-19 cases
Telangana reported 518 fresh Covid-19 cases, taking the tally to over 2.84 lakh while three fatalities pushed the toll to 1,527, the state government said on Friday. Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) accounted for the most number of cases with 91, followed by Rangareddy (41) and Medchal Malkajgiri (39), it said in a bulletin, providing details as of 8 PM on December 24.
US will require negative Covid-19 tests for all UK passengers: CDC
The US government will require all airline passengers arriving from the United Kingdom to test negative for Covid-19 within 72 hours of departure starting Monday amid concerns about a new coronavirus variant that may be more transmissible. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said in a statement that all airline passengers arriving from the UK must test negative in order to fly to the United States. The decision was a turnaround after the Trump administration told US airlines on Tuesday it was not planning to require any testing for arriving UK passengers.
