India's Covid-19 tally on Wednesday crossed 7.2 million mark to reach 7,239,389 with 63,509 new cases in last 24 hours. A day ago, the country had recorded 55,342 new cases of coronavirus, as per the health ministry’s dashboard, continuing with its recent downward trend of new cases per day. Also on Tuesday, Union health minister Dr Harsh Vardhan had said the government expects a Covid-19 vaccine by early 2021 from more than source, as he chaired the 21st Group of Ministers (GoM) meeting on coronavirus.

Tuesday also witnessed Delhi’s iconic Akshardham temple reopen for the first time in March. Maharashtra, with over 1.5 million cases, remains the worst-affected state, followed by Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh. Globally, United States, India and Brazil continue to be the worst-hit countries.
