India's caseload of the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) stands at 9,266,706 after 44,489 infections were registered between Wednesday and Thursday, according to data released by the Union health ministry. On Saturday, prime minister Narendra Modi, who earlier this week chaired a meet with states over the Covid-19 situation and to discuss distribution plan of a potential Covid-19 vaccine, will visit vaccine development centres in Ahmedabad, Pune and Hyderabad.

PM Modi will visit Pune-based Serum Institute of India (SII) and Hyderabad's Bharat Biotech International Limited. Meanwhile, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Kerala remain the five worst-hit states. Delhi, which has been the epicentre of India's recent Covid-19 surge, is at sixth. On Thursday, the Delhi high court directed the Delhi government to take a decision immediately on night curfew and implement it "without delay."

The mutations currently documented in the novel coronavirus which causes Covid-19 do not appear to increase its transmissibility in humans, according to a study which analysed samples of the virus from more than 46,000 individuals across the world, reports PTI.

As many as 39 people including pilgrims, police personnel and temple employees, have tested positive for coronavirus in Sabarimala so far since the Lord Ayyappa temple here was opened for the annual pilgrimage season on November 16, reports PTI.

Russia's Covid tally reaches to 2,215,533 cases
Russia reported a record high of 27,543 new coronavirus infections on Friday, including 7,918 in the capital Moscow, bringing the national tally to 2,215,533, reports Reuters.

Phase III trial of Covid-19 vaccine requires 1,000 volunteers at NICED
Around 1,000 volunteers, required for the proposed phase III trial of Covaxin -- the vaccine for Covid-19 -- at the National Institute of Cholera and Enteric Disease (NICED) in Kolkata, will be selected from among the people living within a radius of 10-15 km of the city, a senior official said on Friday, reports PTI.
