India's count of cases of the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) crossed 8.9 million mark to reach 8,912,907 on Wednesday, Union health ministry's data showed. In the previous spike, 29,164 new infections were recorded and 30,458 in the one before that. The latest spike is 32% more than the previous one.

Meanwhile, the Arvind Kejriwal-led government in Delhi announced it was limiting the number of people allowed at weddings to 50 from 200. Also, both Delhi deputy CM Manish Sisodia and health minister Satyendar Jain assured no new lockdown would be imposed in the national capital. Jain, however, also hinted at curbs at local level in certain areas to bring Delhi's Covid-19 situation under control.

Andhra Pradesh recorded 1,236 new Covid-19 cases. West Godavari, Krishna and Guntur districts recorded more than 150 cases. Close to 6,900 people have died due to Covid-19.

Haryana education minister Pal says schools where tests returned positive shut down for 2 weeks
Haryana's education minister said that the schools in Rewari where students tested positive have been shut down for two weeks. He said the entire system should not be shut down for a few cases.

Delhi CM calls for all-party meet amid rising Covid-19 cases
Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal has called for an all-party meet at 11 am on Thursday to discuss the Covid-19 situation in the capital city. Delhi has recorded over 90,000 cases in the last two weeks and more than 1,000 people have died during that period.

72 students test positive for Covid-19 in Haryana's Rewari
A Nodal officer said that the tests were conducted to curb the spread as people engaged in social functions amid the festive season.
