India’s coronavirus tally crossed the 6.7 million mark after 72,049 new infections were reported between Tuesday and Wednesday, the Union health ministry’s dashboard showed. On Wednesday, parliamentary affairs minister Pralhad Joshi became the latest central minister to contract the infection as he announced in a tweet he had tested positive for Covid-19.

Also on Wednesday, Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal announced all weekly capitals in the national capital can open. So far, only two markets per zone were allowed to open. Kejriwal also announced theatres in Delhi will reopen from October 15, in line with the Centre’s directives for the fifth phase of nationwide unlock or ‘reopening.’ The global Covid-19 tally, meanwhile, stands at over 36 million, including a death toll of more than a million, according to worldometers.

Czech Republic reports highest single-day spike of 5,335
The Czech Republic on Wednesday reported its highest single-day tally of 5,335, the country's health ministry has said. In total, it has recorded 95,0360 cases, along with 829 deaths.

Japanese newspaper Yomiuri has reported Japan is planning to remove a ban on overseas travel to China and 11 other countries next month. The other 11 countries include Taiwan, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, South Korea, Vietnam and Malaysia.
