More than 12 months have passed since Odisha faced the wrath of Cyclone Fani, that affected the eastern region along with neighbouring nations such as Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. In recent days, Cyclone Amphan has been brewing in the Bay of Bengal. Yesterday, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) had warned that Amphan is very likely to intensify into a severe cyclonic storm soon and would move towards the northern direction. The Odisha govt has requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi to temporarily suspend Shramik special trains in specific areas that will be affected by the cyclone. 12 coastal and adjoining districts in Odisha have been put on alert. The states of Odisha and West Bengal have sent disaster management teams to move families from low lying areas to protective shelters.
