Based on the request from the Government of West Bengal, five columns were deployed today in the state to assist civil administration in the aftermath of Cyclone Amphan. They will be providing assistance in road clearance work tomorrow as well: Indian Army

A good move @MamataOfficial to seek support and assistance of Army. These are trying time and appeal to people to keep calm. Authorities must restore connectivity, electricity and other services at the earliest.

Due to the impact of cyclone Amphan, about 500 houses have been fully damaged and 15,000 houses got partially damaged. 28 large animals, 9 small animal and 3680 poultry birds perished: Odisha Govt

Cyclone Amphan has affected over 44.45 lakh people in 9833 villages and 22 urban bodies in Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Mayurbhanj, Cuttack, Jajpur, Keonjhar, Khordha and Puri districts. Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapada and Jagatsinghpur have been affected severely: Odisha Government

Before landfall, I had spoken to Commander of Eastern Command. They had made great preparations for relief work. He had said that their 11 columns are ready and another 12 are waiting,they have all equipment so that no stone is left unturned in helping people. I have come to know that the state govt has taken the positive step of taking the help of Army. This is commendable. We must use every available resource. Odisha government has decided to send 500 personnel of Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRF) and Odisha Fire Services to West Bengal for assisting in restoration related activities in the aftermath of cyclone Amphan.

I couldn't have any discussion with state government. It's unfortunate. I had extensive discussions with Indian Coast Guard and BSF, they did a great job. West Bengal Chief Secreatary wrote to me about Cyclone Amphan; will send trains as soon as they can accept those: Railway Board chairman, reports PTI.
