Cyclone Amphan, one of the strongest cyclonic storms in decades, caused havoc in the states of West Bengal and Odisha . Prime Minister Narendra Modi will travel to West Bengal on Friday to conduct an aerial survey of the damage caused by Cyclone Amphan. West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee said that 72 people have died so far. The Bengal government has announced a compensation of ₹2 lakh to the families of the deceased. Odisha reported two deaths and NDRF Chief SN Pradhan said that situation in the state is under control. NDRF Chief SN Pradhan also said that around 5 lakh people have been evacuated from West Bengal and 2,37,296 have been evacuated from Odisha.

Super cyclone weakens to cyclonic storm, says IMD
India Meteorological Department Bhubaneswar states in a bulletin that Cyclone Amphan moved north northeastwards with a speed of 27 kmph during past 6 hours, further weakened into a cyclonic storm and lay centred today at 5.30 am over Bangladesh near Lat, reports ANI.
Telangana, Andhra Pradesh may experience heatwaves
The India Meteorological Department said that the states of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh are very likely to experience heatwave conditions as the overall temperature is expected to be between 44-45 degree Celsius due to the impact of Cyclone Amphan, reports ANI.

Extremely severe cyclone 'Amphan' has killed at least 12 persons and ravaged Kolkata and several parts of West Bengal as it left behind a trail of destruction by uprooting trees, destroying thousands of homes and swamping low-lying areas of the state, reports PTI.
Weather conditions improve in Odisha
After a day of heavy rainfall in Odisha due to Cyclone Amphan, parts of the state witnessed improvement in weather conditions. Shops opened in Patrapada area of Balasore as normalcy was slowly restoring in the region.

Water-logging reported in several parts of Kolkata
As Cyclone Amphan, which became a severe cyclonic storm caused destruction in the state of West Bengal, several parts of Kolkata were waterlogged. Trees were seen uprooted which caused damage to vehicles, propertie, etc., reports ANI.

Cyclone likely to weaken during next few hours
The India Meteorological Department said that Cyclone Amphan has moved north-northeastwards direction with a wind speed of 30 kmph over the past six hours. It is very likely to move in the same direction and further weaken into a deep depression in the during next three hours, reports ANI.

Restoration work underway in Kolkata
SN Pradhan, DG National Disaster Response Force said road clearance and restoration work in underway in Kolkata. The cyclonic storm had triggered torrential rain in the capital city of West Bengal causing destruction all around.
