Supercyclone Amphan has taken at least 10-12 lives in West Bengal and at least another three in Odisha. Several parts of Odisha, West Bengal and Bangladesh received heavy rainfall. National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) Director General SN Pradhan said that more than 6.58 lakh people have been evacuated in the states of West Bengal and Odisha. On the other hand, Bangladesh has moved over 2 million people to shelters. At around 2:30 pm on Wednesday, Cyclone Amphan made landfall with sustained wind speeds of 155-165 kmph spiralling up to 185 kmph and weakening to 130 kmph when it reached West Bengal capital Kolkata, uprooting trees and traffic signals and blocking arterial roads.
Odisha to have damaging impact for next 2-3 hours

National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) Director General SN Pradhan during a media briefing said that a total of 41 teams have been deployed in the states of Odisha and West Bengal for rescue and relief efforts.

Odisha, West Bengal evacuated 1.5 lakh, 3.3 lakh people ahead of landfall, says NDRF Chief
National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) Director General SN Pradhan said that the states of West Bengal and Odisha evacuated 1.5 lakh and 3.3 lakh people respectively in view of Cyclone Amphan which is set to make a landfall later in the day. As per the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the landfall will take place between West Bengal's coastal town Digha and the Hatiya islands of Bangladesh, reports ANI.
