India has entered day six of the fourth phase of nationwide lockdown imposed by the Centre to curb the spread of coronavirus. In yet another highest one-day spike, the country recorded 6,654 new Covid-19 cases on Saturday. The total number of coronavirus cases in India have now crossed the 1.25 lakh-mark.

Even as medical journal The Lancet published a paper on Friday saying there were no confirmed benefits of anti-malarial drug hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) being given to Covid-19 patients, the Union health ministry issued an advisory expanding the pool of people to be given the medicine as a prophylactic to prevent them from contracting the infection.

Globally, Spain which was one of the worst-affected nations further eased its lockdown restrictions and allowed outdoor dining and gatherings of up to 10 people. Whereas, death toll in United Kingdom is nearing the 37,000-mark. Brazil has overtaken Russia as the second most infected nation with the total number of cases at 330,890.

All air /rail passengers arriving in J-K to be quarantined for 14 days

All passengers coming to Jammu-Kashmir by air or rail will be kept in institutional quarantine for 14 days and tested for Covid-19 using RTPCR test, news agency ANI quoted J-K government as saying.

If tested negative they will be sent home otherwise to a hospital. This is the UT protocol under the Disaster Management Act.

South Korea reports 23 new coronavirus cases

South Korea reported 23 new cases of the coronavirus, mostly from the densely populated Seoul metropolitan are, news agency Associated Press said on Saturday.

Figures announced by the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Saturday brought national totals to 11,165 cases and 266 deaths.Thirteen of the new cases came from Gyeonggi province surrounding capital Seoul, which on Saturday issued an administrative order to ban gatherings at an additional 2,629 bars and karaoke rooms, bringing its number of shut-down entertainment venues to 8,363.

Queensland govt halts work on 2032 Olympics bid to deal with COVID

Senior international Olympic official John Coates said on Saturday he supports a decision by Queensland's state government to postpone work on its bid for the 2032 Games while they focus on the novel coronavirus outbreak, reports Reuters.

Queensland Premier Annastascia Palaszczuk had confirmed the decision to postpone their work on the bid in a letter to the state parliament on Friday, The Australian newspaper reported.

Home delivery of liquor allowed in Mumbai from today

Home delivery of liquor in sealed bottles will be allowed in Mumbai from today, but with certain riders. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) commissioner Iqbal Chahal, who issued a circular to the effect on Friday, said the service will not be available in containment zones, people ordering liquor will need permits issued by the excise department and no shop will be allowed to sell over the counter.
