With 30,005 new Covid-19 infections in the last 24 hours, the total cases in India crossed 98-lakh mark and has now reached 98,26,775, according to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare's (MoHFW) data on Saturday. After 442 new deaths related to the virus reported in the single day, the cumulative toll mounted to 1,42,628. The country reported more discharges than new cases in the last 24 hours bringing down the active cases tally to 3,59,819, which is the lowest after nearly 145 days. The total active cases were 3,58,692 on July 18. The total discharged cases now reached 93,24,328 with 33,494 new discharges in the last 24 hours. Maharashtra has 74,408 active coronavirus cases, followed by Kerala with 59,528 cases.

Meanwhile, US gave the final go-ahead to the nation’s first Covid-19 vaccine, marking what could be the beginning of the end of an outbreak that has killed nearly 300,000 Americans. US currently has 16 million active cases, making it the worst hit country in the world.

Canada to get first shipment of Pfizer's Covid-19 vaccine on Sunday

Major-General Dany Fortin, responsible for Canada's vaccine program, has told CBC that the country is expecting the first shipment of Pfizer vaccine to arrive later on Sunday, reports Reuters.

Following the United Kingdom, US and Canada are also expected to begin their vaccination programs from Monday, after Covid-19 vaccine developed by Pfizer/BioNTech was cleared for emergency usage. Click here to read more.

Gujarat reports 1,175 new Covid-19 cases, 11 new deaths

With 1,175 new Covid-19 infections and 11 fatalities, Gujarat's total infections reached 227,683 cases and 4,171 deaths, according to the state health department.

Total recoveries stand at 210,214 patients with 1,347 new recoveries reported on Sunday and active cases stand at 13,298 cases.

On Sunday, the stated conducted 55,989 tests taking the total to 8,669,576 tests, reports PTI.

First shipment of Covid-19 vaccine rolls out in US

Pfizer's first shipment of Covid-19 vaccines rolled out in the United States from the manufacturing facility at Kalamazoo, Michigan.

The vaccine requires to be stored at extremely low temperatures (about -94 degrees) during the transport and during the storage at hospitals.

Goa's Covid-19 tally reaches 49,362 cases, 706 deaths

With 57 new Covid-19 infections and one death reported on Sunday, Goa's total Covid-19 cases reached 49,362 and 706 fatalities, as per the state's health department.

Total recoveries in the state reached 47,590 after 101 patients were discharged. Active cases in the state stands at 1,066.

A total of 370,690 tests have conducted in the state so far, with 803 tests on Sunday, reports PTI.
