As coronavirus scare looms across the world with at least 30 people infected with the novel Covid-19 in India, airports in the country are all set for a mammoth screening exercise.

Health minister Harsh Vardhan on Thursday said in the Parliament that 28,529 persons across the country have been brought under surveillance.

Prime Minister Modi's visit to Brussels to attend India-EU Summit was cancelled on Thursday and the meeting has been rescheduled, said the MEA spokesperson.

France reports three more coronavirus deaths

France reported three more deaths due to coronavirus infection on Thursday, taking the total toll to seven. The number of confirmed coronavirus infections rose by 138 to 423, a health official said according to a report in Reuters.


A total of 23 people are in a very serious condition, health agency director Jerome Salomon said at a daily briefing about the virus.

'Long list' of countries not doing enough against virus, says WHO

The World Health Organisation on Thursday warned that many countries were not taking necessary steps to fight the spread of coronavirus.


“This is not a drill. This is not the time for giving up. This is not a time of for excuses. This is a time for pulling out all the stops,” WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said at a daily briefing in Geneva, according to a report in AP.

"Countries have been planning for scenarios like this for decades. Now is the time to act on those plans," he added.

Air travellers coming from Italy, South Korea to carry medical certificate, says DGCA

Air travellers having visited or arriving from Italy and South Korea will require to submit a certificate of having "tested" negative from a health authorities-designated lab in their countries for coronavirus at the departure airport, a senior DGCA official said on Thursday. The fresh travel curbs, which are in addition to the visa restrictions already in place, would come into effect from midnight of March 9 and will remain in place until cases of coronavirus subside, he said.
