India’s Covid-19 tally has reached 332,424 as the country reported 11,502 new cases in the last 24 hours, according to the Union health ministry's dashboard on Monday morning. The death toll due to the coronavirus disease stands at 9,520.

While the tally continues to surge, the number of people recovering from the disease have also shown improvement. As of Monday, 169,797 i.e. over 50% of people who contracted the virus recovered from the infection and have been discharged from the hospital, data shows.

A new study suggests the eight-week lockdown that was imposed in India to contain the spread of coronavirus disease shifted the peak of the epidemic by 34-76 days, i.e. to November, and reduced the number of cases at the end of the lockdown by 69-97%.

Globally, 7.8 million people have contracted Covid-19 and 432,632 people have died of the disease, according to America’s Johns Hopkins University.
