Prime Minister Modi's video conference with chief ministers has ended, reports ANI.

PM Modi tells CMs: "In the same way,if some areas of a big city are in the red zone, then other areas of the big city also need to be protected. I think you are better acquainted with ground realities, you can assess the situation best. How the disease is spreading in new areas, why is it spreading, how people come from outside, that they don’t inform after coming, there’s mental stress too. As if being a carrier is their fault. It’s not so, we want to help you, we don’t think you are a criminal. Socially speaking, it shouldn’t be seem as a `kalank’- this feeling shouldn’t be there.

On the other hand, we can’t be too soft. If we do show too much leniency, then we are doing disservice to that region. I want to with all humility (namrata) say to all CMs, if there is a spurt of cases, then your state won’t be seen as guilty. If cases are low in your state, it won’t be seen as great (mahaan). We don’t want this sentiment.. We will just try to tackle it. If numbers increase in your state, don’t be scared."

Speaking at the video conference with the chief ministers, PM Modi said, "for a long time now, Covid-19 has become a part of our lives. Considering the threat that it poses we shouldn’t compromise on one thing: that is maintaining social distance. This should be made into a mantra for all- do gaj doori. We have to keep spreading this message and should be a life lesson for all. In the same way, masks or face covers should become a major part of our lives. So ,on the one hand, we are challenged by how to save lives and on the other, we also have to equally focus on the financial aspect of this. Focusing on one more than the other, that situation cannot abide any longer. That’s why, we have to strengthen economic activities, and on the other, increase our strength to combat the virus."

Gujarat chief minister Rupani says that the Centre should take decision on extending lockdown in the interest of the country. He said post May 3 we should extend lockdown but at the same time ease the situation in a phased manner.

He said the state will abide with the Centre's decision on the issue. He said this at the video conference with PM Modi

West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee has tweeted that that the state government will initiate every possible help to people of Bengal stuck in different parts of the country due to lockdown,in returning home. "I've instructed my officers to do the needful. Till the time I'm here, nobody from Bengal should feel helpless. I'm with you in these tough times," she said on Monday.

"I am personally overseeing this and we will leave no stone unturned in ensuring that everyone gets any possible help. The initiation has already started & all students from Bengal stuck in Kota would begin their journey back soon, CM Banerjee said.

Himachal Pradesh CM gives updates on the situation in the state. Says, "We are now in a position to start economic activities; however, lockdown should continue considering the issue with other states as well.

Giving details of how the state is dealing with the outbreak, he says authorities reached out to the people at the grassroots through anganwadi centre to create sensitisation; we have been aggressively tested people with symptoms, because bordering states of Himachal have cases. We are happy that 12 district of Himachal has no positive cases."

He talked about how state has reached out with financial aid to the poor and needy. He said that the state is prepared to tackle the challenge.
