Coronavirus continues to batter Italy as the nation reported its worst single-day toll with above 600 deaths. The global toll due to covid-19 has crossed 11,000. Major cities around the world have gone into lockdowns. PM Modi in a series of tweets asked citizens to fight misinformation amid the global pandemic.

Italy has no respite from the deadly coronavirus as the death toll in the European nation reported 632 deaths on Saturday. Over 4,000 people have died in Italy despite the government working hard to contain the covid-19 outbreak. Wuhan, the epicenter of the outbreak, has not reported any new cases of coronavirus which led to WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus saying that the worst situations can be turned around. Governors of US cities California, New York and Illinois ordered the cities’ residents to stay at home as coronavirus cases surge in the US. India's health ministry reported that there are 315 people who have coronavirus in the country. PM Modi also posted a series of tweets highlighting the need of technology and internet to tackle misinformation and spread awareness as coronavirus pandemic creates fear in the hearts of the citizens.

Officials in Gujarat told PTI that another person has tested positive for coronavirus taking the statewide affected number to 8.

Positive cases increased by 11 within a day: Maharashtra health minister

Maharashtra health minister Rajesh Tope said the state has seen an increase of 11 cases with in a day. He also added that 8 persons with travel history have been infected and 3 people got infected after being in contact with them.

ICMR revises coronavirus testing strategy

ICMR has revised its covid-19 testing strategy to curb the outbreak from affecting more people. Now all hospitalized patients with severe acute respiratory illness, breathing difficulties (shortness), cough and fever will be tested. Asymptomatic individuals who are direct and high-risk contacts will now be tested once between day 5 and day 14 of coming in his/her contact.

Noida has reported one more case of coronavirus in the state. The district magistrate on Saturday told PTI that one more person has tested positive for covid-19. 5 people are affected in total from Noida.

Telangana and Andhra Pradesh reports four fresh coronavirus cases, 22 people affected

22 people in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh have coronavirus as four fresh cases were reported on Friday evening. An official bulletin released by the Telangana government said two male Indonesians, aged 27 and 60, who arrived in Karimnagar from Delhi have tested positive for covid-19. A fifty-year-old man with travel history to Saudi Arabia has also tested positive for covid-19 in Vishakhapatnam.

Punjab, Maharashtra report rise in coronavirus cases

Health officials in Punjab and Maharashtra have confirmed rise is coronavirus cases in their states. Deputy Commissioner Girish Dayalan told PTI that 3 more people have tested positive in Mohali. Officials in Maharashtra have also reported a rise in coronavirus cases in the state. An official told PTI that eleven more cases were detected since Friday evening, which brings the statewide affected number to 63.
