Covid-19 highlights: India reports 437 cases in 24 hours, 1834 people infected
The number of novel coronavirus cases in India rose to 1,834, according to the figures released by the Union health ministry. The US death toll, which has now touched 3,400, is more than the nearly 3,000 people killed in the September 11, 2001 terror attacks. Close to 175,000 have been infected across the US.

The coronavirus pandemic has infected more than 800,000 people all over the world, with the global death toll crossing 40,000. The total number of deaths in the US with the 3,400 deaths from Covid-19 has surpassed China’s official toll of 3,305. Close to 175,000 have been infected across the United States. The US, Italy, Spain, China and Germany are now the five most affected countries in terms of number of confirmed cases.
In India, too, the number of novel coronavirus cases continue to climb. According to the Union health ministry, there are 1,834 Covid-19 patients in the country which 41 deaths.

Another Delhi doctor tests positive
A 32-year-old doctor from Delhi-government-run Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel hospital in East Patel Nagar has tested positive for Covid-19 on Tuesday. He works in the hospital's paediatric department.
He was tested after his wife who works at Safdarjung hospital's biochemistry department tested positive. Safdarjung hospital currently has 21 Covid-19 positive cases in its isolation facility
Bihar traces 30 people who attended Nizamuddin event
Bihar's principal secretary, health department, Sanjay Kumar says the state has received a list of 81 people who had attended the Markaz gathering in Nizamuddin, Delhi. Of these, 17 in Patna and 13 in Buxar have been traced as of now; we will trace others also." ANI
New York City's Covid-19 death toll crosses 1,000
More than 1,000 people have died in the New York City alone from COVID-19 as the authorities struggled to procure enough medical equipment to cope with the rising coronavirus cases and warned that the it is “approaching the toughest weeks of this crisis,” reports PTI.
According to the official data, the total number of COVID-19 cases in the City was 41,771 and 1,096 people died of the disease as of March 31.
At least 8,400 people are hospitalised and of those, at least 1,888 are in the ICU. New York State, the epicentre of pandemic in the US, had on Sunday passed the grim milestone of more than 1,000 deaths due to the novel coronavirus, with Governor Andrew Cuomo warning that thousands of people might die before the crisis ends.
New York State now has 75,000 coronavirus cases and 1,550 people have died of the disease, an increase of 332 deaths within 24 hours.

Bihar has reported 23 Covid-19 cases till Wednesday morning, the principal secretary (health) said. He added, "The state government has decided to test all the people who have returned from abroad after 18th March, because we have found that even those who had no symptoms have tested positive."ANI
Delhi has 120 Covid-19 patients: Health Minister Satyendar Jain
Delhi's health minister Satyendar Jain told ANI that so far, 120 positive Covid-19 cases have been reported in Delhi. Total 750 people are admitted in hospitals across Delhi, of which only one person is on ventilator.
He added, "As on today, Delhi govt has 1000 beds dedicated for coronavirus patients. It has been decided that Lok Nayak Hospital and Rajiv Gandhi Super Speciality Hospital will now be used for Covid-19 patients only."
Saudi official urges Muslims to delay hajj plans over coronavirus pandemic
A senior Saudi official urged the more than 1 million Muslims intending to travel to Islam's holiest sites to perform the hajj to delay making plans this year due to the new coronavirus pandemic, according to reports Wednesday, in comments that suggested the pilgrimage could be cancelled, reports news agency Associated Press.
In February, the kingdom took the extraordinary decision to close off the holy cities of Mecca and Medina to foreigners over the virus, a step which wasn’t taken even during the 1918 flu epidemic that killed tens of millions worldwide.
Restrictions have tightened in the kingdom as it grapples with over 1,500 confirmed cases of the new virus. The kingdom has reported 10 deaths so far. The Middle East has more than 71,000 confirmed cases of the virus, most of those in Iran, and over 3,300 deaths.

7 people named in FIR in Nizamuddin Markaz case: Sources
Six people - Maulana Saad, Dr Zeeshan, Mufti Shehzad, M Saifi, Younus, & Mohd Salman - have been named in the FIR in Markaz, Nizamuddin case, reports ANI quoting Delhi Police sources. Markaz was vacated around 3:30 am today, it had around 2100 people & it took 5 days to vacate the place, it added.
Another person Mohammed Ashraf's name has also been included in the Markaz, Nizamuddin case FIR. The place is yet to be completely sanitized: ANI
Karnataka detects & quarantines 12 people from Nizamuddin event
Karnataka health minister B Sriramulu said on Wednesday, "We got information that 62 Indonesian & Malaysian nationals who took part in prayers in Delhi (Markaz) had visited Karnataka as well. We have detected 12 such people and quarantined them. The home department will investigate the case further.:" ANI
