The Covid-19 infections continued to rise in 40 United States out of 50, while the US President Donald Trump slammed China over the outbreak of the deadly disease.

The US on Thursday reported over 53,000 new cases of coronavirus, reported The Washington Post. With 10,109 new cases, Florida on Thursday (local time) recorded its biggest single-day hike.

As per the latest update by the Johns Hopkins University, the number of Covid-19 infections stands at 2,735,339 in the United States.

Meanwhile, India recorded the biggest spike so far in the daily cases as 20,903 people tested positive for the Covid-19. The total number has now risen to 625,544 including 227, 439 active cases. In Delhi, the Covid-19 infection tally mounted to 92,175.

Meanwhile, the Indian Council of Medical Research has selected 12 institutes for a clinical trial of the country's first indigenous Covid-19 vaccine.

South Africa on Friday confirmed another record high number of daily virus cases with 8,728 as anxiety grows in Johannesburg, the country’s latest hot spot.

The city has more than 22,000 cases and Gauteng province, which also includes the capital, Pretoria, now has nearly 30% of the country’s cases.

South Africa has Africa’s most confirmed cases with more than 168,000.

The country has the most developed health care system in sub-Saharan Africa and in places it’s already pushed near the limit, with more than 2,000 health care workers infected and beds in Gauteng’s public hospitals filling up.
