Highlights: Maharashtra reports 8,240 new Covid-19 cases, tally past 3.18 L

Germany has confirmed 249 new Covid-19 cases over the past 24 hours. The tally has now reached to 201,823, the Robert Koch Institute said on Monday.

The death toll has grown by two to 9,086 people within the same period of time

China’s latest coronavirus outbreak has spread to a second city in the northwestern region of Xinjiang, Associated Press reported on Monday.

One of the 17 new cases reported on Monday was in the ancient Silk Road city of Kashgar, the regional government said on its official microblog. The remainder were in the regional capital of Urumqi, where all other cases have been reported since the outbreak that has now infected at least 47 people emerged earlier this month.

After recovering from Covid-19, Delhi health minister Satyendar Jain will resume work from today.

India recorded the biggest single-day spike in Covid-19 infection after registering more than 40,400 cases on Monday. While 681 other succumbed to the disease, pushing death toll to 27,497, as per the latest data published on health ministry's site.

As many as 1,40,47,908 samples have been tested for Covid-19 so far. Of these 2,56,039 were tested on Sunday, Indian Council of Medical Research said.

South Korea has reported its smallest daily jump in local Covid-19 transmissions in two months as health authorities express cautious optimism that the outbreak is being brought under control.

As Australia is bracing for the second wave of Covid-29 infections, country's acting chief medical officer said it would take "weeks" to slow the outbreak to levels seen as recently as June.

"We have learned over time that the time between introducing a measure and seeing its effect is at least two weeks and sometimes longer than that," Kelly was reported as saying by local media.

More than 23,529 new coronavirus cases were confirmed in Brazil in the past 24 hours, which has pushed the country's tally to 2,098,389 on Sunday (local time), according to the latest data from the Health Ministry.
