The death toll due to Covid-19 surpassed 140,000 in the United States while the number of infections continued increase every day in the country.
In the Asian region as well, the situation was grim as countries saw a resurgence of cases forcing authorities to reimpose various social restrictions.
In record high, Hong Kong detected more than 100 cases of Covid-19 while authorities mulled an extension in the mandatory wearing of masks.
Meanwhile, in China, Xinjiang province saw a spike in the Covid-19 cases while authorities in Beijing lowered its response level after two weeks of no new domestic infection.

India, the third worst-hit nation by the pandemic after the United States and Brazil, has been recording a record high on a daily basis. The number of Covid-19 infection currently stands at 118,042. While 681 other succumbed to the disease, pushing death toll to 27,497, as per the latest data published on health ministry's site.
