Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Wednesday gave details of the first part of the ₹20 lakh crore economic stimulus package that was announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday to salvage the economy from the coronavirus pandemic induced crisis. Wednesday's announcements were about the MSME sector and highlights included changing the definition of MSMEs, ₹3 lakh crore collateral free automatic loan for businesses, including MSMEs, reducing TDS/ TCS rates on non-salary income by 25% and extending due date for filing all income tax returns to November 30, 2020.

Meanwhile, several poor nations have turned to the IMF for credit. Chile has asked for $23.8 billion from the IMF while Zambia shall not get emergency coronavirus funding as the nation’s debt will reach 110% of GDP this year. Cases continue to rise as globally 43 lakh people remain infected by Covid-19. India has recorded 74,281 cases so far with 2,415 deaths.
Date of resuming Delhi Metro not yet finalised
Protocol for social distancing is being worked upon in the trains and premises of Delhi Metro, reports ANI.
The date of the opening of the Delhi Metro has still not been finalised and will be notified to the public in due course, ANI quoted DMRC as saying.

Out of the 54 deaths reported in Maharashtra on Wednesday, 40 are in Mumbai, six in Pune, two each in Jalgaon, Solapur, Aurangabad and one each Vasai Virar and Ratnagiri

Maharashtra records 1495 new cases on Wednesday, its biggest single-day spike. The state's tally now stands at 25,922.
The death toll in the worst-affected state also jumped to 975 with 54 deaths, highest ever, registered in a day.

Tamil Nadu reported three more Covid-19 deaths and 509 fresh cases on Wednesday, taking its tally rises to 9,227 including 64 fatalities, according to the state health department: PTI

Reacting to finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman's announcements, former finance minister and senior Congress leader P Chidambaram says that there is nothing in what the FM said today for the lakhs of poor, hungry and devastated migrant workers who have walked — and many thousands are still walking — back to their home states. This is a cruel blow dealt to those who toil every day.
He said this in a statement released on Wednesday evening.
