In grim development on Sunday, the number of global Covid-19 cases surged past 9.8 million with a single-day spike of 189,077 cases. According to the World Health Organisation, it was the highest single-day spike in coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours.
"Today, we report a record number of new cases in the last 24 hours globally (189,077 cases), with several countries reporting their highest number of new cases in a 24-hour period," the WHO said in its daily statistical bulletin.

India is among the list of countries recording the highest number of cases. As per the health ministry's data, there are 548,318 cases of coronavirus infections in the country while the death toll stood at 16,475 with 380 new deaths. Delhi, one of the worst-hit states, total infections are at 83,077, including 27,847 active cases.
Last week saw things stabilising-recovery rate has increased to 62%, today more patients are recovering in Delhi than those who are falling ill, number of deaths are coming down, positivity rate is decreasing rapidly, Delhi Deputy CM Manish Sisodia said on Sunday.

CCRS to begin study on prophylactic use of Siddha in treating Covid-19 cases
With a Siddha 'add-on' therapy to allopathic treatment at a government Covid-19 care centre here giving encouraging results, the Central Council for Research in Siddha (CCRS) will soon commence a study on 60 coronavirus patients at Vysarpadi in the city.
The new clinical trial aims to bring out the efficacy of the Siddha group of medicines and 'Kabasura kudineer' as prophylactic designed to treat or prevent Covid-19.

Govt offices can function with 15% strength, private with 10% strength: Maharashtra government
The Maharashtra government said that all government offices with certain exceptions like emergency, health and medical, treasuries, disaster management, police to function with 15% strength or 15 persons whichever is higher. All private offices can operate up to 10% strength or 10 people whichever is more, reports ANI.

Uttar Pradesh registers nearly 700 Covid-19 cases in last 24 hrs
Amit Mohan Prasad, the health secretary of Uttar Pradesh said that 685 cases were reported in the state in the last 24 hours. There are 6650 active cases, 15506 patients have been discharged so far and 672 patients have succumbed to the infection, reports ANI.

Maharashtra government extends Covid-19 lockdown till July 31
The Maharashtra government on Monday extended the coronavirus lockdown in the state till July 31 amid a steady rise in the coronavirus cases. Maharashtra remains the worst-hit state by the Covid-19 pandemic with a tally of almost 1.6 lakh out of which more than 74,000 cases are in Mumbai.

Covid-19 situation under control in Madhya Pradesh: State Health Minister
Madhya Pradesh Health Minister, Narottam Mishra on Monday said that the Covid-19 situation in the state is under control while the Covid growth rate in Madhya Pradesh stands at 78 per cent.
"We have controlled the coronavirus situation in Madhya Pradesh. Our growth rate is 78 per cent. So far, the number of active cases stands at around 2,500 whereas we are prepared with 25,000 beds," the minister told ANI.
