Coronavirus cases in India are nearing the 30,000-mark as the count of total cases climbed to 29,974, while the death toll stood at 937, according to latest figures released by the Union ministry of health on Tuesday evening.

Covid-19 has halted economic activities globally as more than 3 million remain infected and rest of the world remains indoors. States in India have allowed resumption of some activities to stop the country's economy from suffering from more losses due to the pandemic.

'Can't afford a lost generation of youth', says UN chief

Amid the growing numbers of coronavirus cases across the world, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has warned that the risk of radicalisation can increase during the pandemic.

“These frustrations and, frankly, failures to address them by those in power today, fuel declining confidence in political establishments and institutions. And when such a cycle takes hold, it is all too easy for extremist groups to exploit the anger and despair, and the risk of radicalization climbs,” he said.

Essential kits distributed in Hyderabad

A few good samaritans in Hyderabad have distributed essential kits to the needy

as the country continues to remain in lockdown during Ramzan.


"A fortnight ago, we have started distribution of essential kits. At that time, we have distributed 500 kits to people. Today, we are distributing 500 essentials kits to the needy. Firstly, the holy month of Ramzan has started and due to the situation, people are facing difficulties," Syed Hamed, a resident of Hyderabad, told news agency ANI.

'World should have listened to WHO, carefully': WHO chief

The WHO chief defended the UN health body's handling of the Covid-19 pandemic. He said, "We advised the whole world to implement a comprehensive public health approach, and we said: 'Find, test, isolate, and do contact tracing 'You can check for yourselves".

The statement comes days after the US halted its funding to the health agency and accused it of covering up for China during the initial period of the pandemic.

Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said countries should have listened to the agency after it declared a "Public Health Emergency of International Concern" on 30 January, when there were 82 cases outside China and no deaths, the BBC reported on Monday. "The world should have listened to WHO then, carefully,"
