Highlights: Uttarakhand’s Covid-19 tally crosses 23,000; death toll at 312

Tripura's Covid-19 tally rose to 13,836 on Friday as 524 more people tested positive for the infection, while three fresh fatalities pushed the northeastern state's death toll to 129, a health official said. The active cases have climbed to 5,475 while over 8,000 people have recovered so far, reports PTI.

As many as 20 deaths and 591 new cases of Covid-19 were reported in Puducherry on Friday, the Union Territory's Health Department informed, reports ANI.

France's education minister on Friday said 22 schools have had to shut on French territory due to the coronavirus since pupils returned to school this week, emphasising that over half of these were in the Indian Ocean island of La Reunion.

India's Covid-19 tally reached 3,936,747 on Friday as it reported more than 80,000 cases in the 24 hours, for second consecutive day. The overall tally in India stands at 3,853,406 now and the death toll has reached 67,376.

Jharkhand's Covid-19 caseload rose to 46,480 on Friday as 1,618 more people tested positive for the infection, while six fresh fatalities pushed the state's death toll to 444, a health official said.

Amid the resurgence of Covid-19 cases, New Zealand has decided to retain coronavirus measures across the country until mid-September.

The city-state reportedly found two more virus clusters in previously cleared worker dormitories -- a day after three other dorms previously cleared were found to have clusters.
