Deaths due to the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) are set to cross 1 million on Sunday afternoon and the World Health Organization (WHO) warned that another million could die before the pandemic is brought under control. Globally, 992,946 people have succumbed to the disease, according to the figures published by John Hopkins University. While the number of infection stands at 32,746,134.

India's Covid-19 tally neared 6 million after it reported 88,600 fresh cases of Covud-19 on Sunday. The number of death toll reached 94,503 after 1,124 fresh fatalities.

US CDC reports 203,180 deaths from coronavirus

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on Saturday reported 7,009,216 cases of the new coronavirus, an increase of 50,584 from its previous count, and said that the number of deaths had risen by 851 to 203,180.

The CDC reported its tally of cases of the respiratory illness known as Covid-19, caused by the new coronavirus, as of 4 p.m. ET on Sept. 25 compared with its previous report a day earlier.

Mainland China reports 14 new Covid-19 cases vs 15 a day earlier


Mainland China reported 14 new Covid-19 cases on September 26, compared with 15 cases announced a day earlier, the national health authority said on Saturday.

The National Health Commission said in a statement that all the new cases were imported infections involving travellers from abroad. The number of new asymptomatic cases, which China does not classify as confirmed Covid-19 patients, fell to 26 from 30 a day earlier.
