Covid-19 deepened gender inequality, says UN chief
According to the union health ministry’s dashboard, India on Tuesday logged 69,921 new cases, 819 deaths due to the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) outbreak, which has taken the overall tally to nearly 3.7 million. The total cases include 785,996 active cases, over 2.83 million recoveries and 65,288 deaths.
India on Sunday registered 78,761 cases, the highest ever across the globe. The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) said that over 4.33 crore samples have been tested for Covid-19 so far out of which 10,16, 920 samples were tested on Monday.
India’s GDP contracted by almost 24% in from April-June in 2020 as compared to 2019. This indicates that the Covid-19 lockdown during the initial months took a severe toll on economic activity. India observed a hard lockdown during the initial months of the outbreak in April and May. According to experts, lockdown was not a problem but what made matters worse was the way in which it was implemented.

India stands as the third worst-affected nation from the Covid-19 pandemic. The United States, which is the worst affected topped six million cases on Monday, adding a million infections in three weeks. The country had recorded its five millionth case on August 9, which was just 17 days after it hit four million.
Delhi govt's next round of sero-survey begins; to be done ward-wise
Delhi's next round of monthly sero-prevalence survey began on Tuesday covering all 272 municipal wards to analyse the Covid-19 situation in Delhi at "micro-level", health minister Satyendar Jain said. The sample size this time will be 17,000 and the exercise will be carried out for seven days, he told reporters, reports PTI.

The union health ministry on Tuesday said 65,081 people recovered from the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) disease in the last 24 hours in India, taking the total number of recoveries to 28,39,882 and recovery rate to 77 per cent, reports ANI.

Tripura logs highest single day-spike of 509 Covid-19 cases
Tripura registered its highest single-day spike in Covid-19 cases on Tuesday as 509 more people tested positive for the infection, while a record 10 fresh fatalities pushed the northeastern state's coronavirus death toll to 113, a health official said. The state's tally has crossed 12,000, he added, reports PTI.

Bars, pubs in Karnataka allowed to resume service from Sept 1
The Karnataka government has allowed bars, pubs, clubs and restaurants in the state to serve liquor from Tuesday with 50 per cent of their seating capacity. There were restrictions on serving liquor since March, when the lockdown was enforced first, and until now only takeaways were allowed at these establishments, reports PTI.
32 members of extended family detected positive for coronavirus
Thirty-two members of an extended family living in the same locality were found positive for coronavirus in the Banda city of Uttar Pradesh, officials said on Tuesday. "44 new patients of Covid-19 have been confirmed in the district on Monday evening, including 32 members of the same family living in Phuta Kuan locality of Banda city," Chief Medical Officer (CMO) ND Sharma said, reports PTI.
Andaman registers 3,132 Covid-19 cases; 46 deaths
28 new cases pushed of Andaman and Nicobar Islands' Covid-19 tally to 3,132 on Tuesday, while one more fatality took the Union territory's death toll to 46, a health official said. Eight of the new patients have travel history, while 20 infections were detected during contact tracing, he added, reports PTI.

Pakistan has registered 300 more coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours, taking the nationwide tally to 296,149, the health ministry said on Tuesday. Another four patients died overnight due to the disease, pushing the Covid-19 death toll to 6,298, it said, reports PTI.
Chinese students begin full return to school
Chinese students on Tuesday began a full return to regular classes following two weeks without new cases of local transmission in the country. About 75% of students had already returned to school and the remainder will return beginning from Tuesday, reports AP.

Rajasthan's Covid-19 tally on Tuesday climbed to 82,363 after 670 cases, 117 recovered cases and six deaths were reported in the last 24 hours. The total cases now include 14,372 active cases, 66,929 recoveries and 1,062 deaths, the state's health department said, reports ANI.

The coronavirus pandemic has deepened inequality between men and women and reversed “decades of limited and fragile progress on gender equality and women’s rights,” the United Nations chief said on Monday.
