After registering the lowest single-day spike since July on Tuesday, India's daily Covid-19 tally went up again on Wednesday after 43,893 cases and 508 deaths were recorded in the last 24 hours. The total cases are nearing the eight million mark which include 610,803 active cases, 7,259,509 recoveries and 120,010 deaths.

The total recoveries constitute 90% of the case load whereas total active cases continue to remain below the 700,000-mark.

Union health secretary Rajesh Bhushan on Tuesday said that the cumulative positivity rate is on a steady decline and at present is at 7.61 per cent, India is now reporting 5,700 cases per million with more than 10 crore test conducted till date. He also added that there is a constant decline in average daily deaths in the last five weeks.

Union minister Smriti Irani tests positive for Covid-19

Union minister Smriti Irani on Wednesday said she has tested positive for Covid-19. Irani requested those who have made contacted with her recently to get tested for coronavirus.

"It is rare for me to search for words while making an announcement; hence here’s me keeping it simple — I’ve tested positive for Covid and would request those who came in contact with me to get themselves tested at the earliest," she wrote on Twitter.
