Highlights: Punjab records 353 new Covid-19 cases, 13 deaths in a day

The Union health ministry on Monday said that India’s fatality rate due to Covid-19 dropped to 1.50%, which is the lowest since March 22. A total of 14 states and union territories which include Jharkhand, Bihar, Kerala, Odisha, Assam have case fatality ratio (CFR) lower than 1%, it added.

For the past few days, India has been witnessing a downward trend in its daily coronavirus (Covid-19) tally. The daily tally saw a major fall on Tuesday after 36,470 cases and 488 deaths were registered in the last 24 hours, as per the Union health ministry's dashboard. The total Covid-19 cases have now climbed to 7,946,429 which include 625,857 active cases, over 7.2 million recoveries and 119,502 deaths.

The ministry on Monday said that India’s fatality rate due to the disease dropped to 1.50%, which is the lowest since March 22. A total of 14 states and union territories which include Jharkhand, Bihar, Kerala, Odisha, Assam have case fatality ratio (CFR) lower than 1%, it added.

States such as Maharashtra, Delhi, West Bengal, Karnataka continue to contribute the maximum number of Covid-19 infections on a daily basis. Delhi has seen a spike in cases from the last two weeks with fears of a second wave incoming. As many as 360,000 people have been infected and 6,312 have died in the national capital.

Meanwhile, Covid-19 cases across the globe have crossed 43 million with the director general of the World Health Organization (WHO) Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus saying some countries in the northern hemisphere are facing a dangerous moment.

Punjab reports 353 new Covid-19 cases in 24 hours

Punjab reported 353 new Covid-19 cases, 463 discharged cases and 13 deaths, taking total positive cases to 1,31,737 till date, including 1,23,510 discharges, 4,089 active cases and 4,138 deaths, informed the state health department.
