Highlights: Punjab records 353 new Covid-19 cases, 13 deaths in a day

Punjab reported 353 new Covid-19 cases, 463 discharged cases and 13 deaths, taking total positive cases to 1,31,737 till date, including 1,23,510 discharges, 4,089 active cases and 4,138 deaths, informed the state health department.

Mumbai reports 801 new Covid-19 cases, 1,043 recoveries and 23 deaths. Total cases stand at 2,52,888, including 2,22,501 recoveries and 10,122 deaths. Active cases are at 19,290, informs municipal corporation greater Mumbai.

Tamil Nadu reported 2,522 new Covid-19 cases and 27 deaths in the last 24 hours, state health department said on Tuesday. While more than 4,020 peple were discharge dafter successfully being recovered from the viral disease.

The Covid-19 tally in Andhra Pradesh reached 8,11,825 on Tuesday after registering nearly 3,000 cases in the last 24 hours. The state recorded as many as 2,901 cases and 19 deaths, state health ministry said.

The Covid-19 tally in Mumbai's slum colony of Dharavi crossed the 3,500-mark on Tuesday with the addition of 11 new cases, a senior BMC official said.

Only 8% people below the age of 17 years are Covid-19 positive in India, Balram Bhargava of Indian Council of Medical research said.

Union minister Ramdas Athawale has tested positive for the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) and has been admitted to the Bombay hospital in South Mumbai. Just yesterday, Maharashtra deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar had been infected. Pawar is admitted to the Breach Candy hospital in Mumbai.

Russia recorded 16,550 new coronavirus cases on Tuesday, including 4,312 in Moscow, pushing the national tally to 1,547,774, reports Reuters.

At least 105 drivers and conductors of the MSRTC's Sangli division, who were deployed in BEST buses in Mumbai earlier this month, have tested positive for Covid-19 after returning to Sangli, an official said on Tuesday, reports PTI.

A study conducted by researchers at Harvard University in September showed that an increase of only one microgram per cubic metre in PM 2.5 is associated with an 8% increase in the Covid-19 death rate, which further indicated adverse health impacts of air pollution can make people prone to the disease, reports PTI.
