UK, Kenya plan post-Covid-19 summit to help schooling in poor nations

The Covid-19 tally in the union territory of Puducherry rose to 31,549 with the addition of 320 new cases, while the death toll rose to 563 with four more fatalities, the government said on Sunday.

Telangana reported 1,717 new Covid-19 cases, taking the tally to 2,12,063 while five more deaths pushed the toll to 1,222.

At least 239 more people, including two security personnel, have tested positive for Covid-19 in Arunachal Pradesh, pushing the tally to 11,998, a health department official said here on Sunday.

Of the 239 fresh cases, 89 were reported from the Capital Complex region, Changlang (36), West Siang (34), East Siang (18), Tirap (15), Lepa Rada (8), Lohit (7) and Lower Subansiri (6), the official said.

India recorded 74,383 cases of Covid-19 in a day on Sunday. The number of infection has reached 7,053,806. While the number of recoveries surpassed 6 million mark. The death toll is at 108,334.

Germany on Sunday confirmed 3,483 fresh cases of Covid-19 in the past 24 hours, pushing the country's tally to 322,864. The death tool increased 9,615 after eleven fresh fatalities.

Covid-19 recoveries in India crossed 60-lakh mark on Sunday, Union ministry of health said.

"The five top states with maximum caseload (61% active cases) are also contributing more than half (54.3%) of the total recoveries," it said in a statement.

The UK reported 15,166 virus cases on Saturday, a 3% rise in line with the average daily increase over the previous week.

Infections in the UK have risen by a third in the last two weeks, and a government minister said earlier this week said the renewed outbreak is “getting out of control.”

Mayors in the UK will be given more control over the coronavirus test-and-trade system as the government tries to secure their support for tougher lockdown rules that are set to be announced Monday, the Sunday Times reported.

President Donald Trump is no longer contagious, nine days after being stopped in his tracks by Covid-19, his physician said in a statement released late Saturday.

"This evening I am happy to report that in addition to the President meeting CDC criteria for the safe discontinuation of isolation, this morning's Covid PCR sample demonstrates, by currently recognized standards, he is no longer considered a transmission risk to others," the president's physician Sean Conley said in the statement.
