The World Health Organisation confirmed 660,905 new infections in a day as the global infection continued to break records. The number of infection worldwide has reached at 54,299,446, as per the figures by John Hopkins University. While 1,315,897 others succumbed to the disease.

In the United States, worst-affected by Covid-19, the total caseload has surpassed 11 million cases with infections topping 100,000 for an 11th straight day. In view of the outbreak, Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer announced a three-week partial lockdown for her state.

While in Hong Kong, authorities rallied to tighten restrictions after a rise in locally transmitted cases. Cases in Malaysia and Japan are also grew by more than 1,000 a day. South Korea reported the most infections in 11 weeks.

Meanwhile, Germany warned of “considerable restrictions” over the next four to five months, while Austria plans mass-testing of its entire population.
