Highlights: Delhi reports 7,340 new Covid-19 cases

Several cities across the globe that had earlier contained the spread of the coronavirus disease are now seeing a second wave of the outbreak.

On Saturday, India’s daily coronavirus (Covid-19) tally remained below the 50,000-mark after 44,684 cases and 520 related deaths were logged in the last 24 hours. The total cases have now reached 8,773,479 which include 129,188 deaths, over 8.16 million recoveries and 480,719 active cases. The active cases continue to be below the 500,000-mark and constitute 5.55 per cent of the total case load.

Delhi which continues to be worst-hit from the pandemic- added over 7,800 Covid-19 cases and 91 deaths on Friday. The positivity rate- which is the percentage of people who test among the total tested for the disease, further rose to 13.8 per cent.

Meanwhile, the global coronavirus tally mounted to 53,722,975 out of which over 1.3 million have died so far, according to worldometre figures. Several cities across the globe that had earlier contained the spread of the disease are now seeing a second wave of the outbreak.
