Despite surge in cases, people flout Covid-19 rules in Delhi

Delhi health minister Satyendar Jain on Thursday said that the national capital has decided to ban community Chhath Puja celebrations at Ghats to contain the spread of the novel coronavirus disease (Covid-19). The national capital is the highest contributor towards India's daily Covid-19 tally, reports ANI.

Telangana reported 1,015 fresh coronavirus cases taking the tally to 2.54 lakh while three fatalities pushed the toll to 1,393. As many as 17,323 patients are under treatment and40,603 samples were tested on November 11, reports PTI.

India’s Covid-19 tally climbed to 8,683,916 after 47,905 fresh cases and 550 more related deaths were registered in the last 24 hours. The total cases include 128,121 deaths, 489,294 active cases and over 8 million recoveries, according to the Union health ministry’s dashboard.

The coronavirus tally of Andaman and Nicobar Islands rose to 4,494 on Thursday as 17 more people tested positive for the infection, a health official said. Sixty patients have succumbed to the infection so far, he added, reports PTI.

Union minister Smriti Irani on Thursday morning tweeted that she has tested negative for the novel coronavirus disease.

"I have tested negative for COVID. Would like to extend my grateful thanks to everyone for their good wishes & prayers," she tweeted.

Irani had tested positive for the infection on October 29.

The United States hit a record-setting 136,325 new daily cases of the novel coronavirus disease, the latest data from Johns Hopkins University revealed. The country has reported more than 10.3 million cases and more than 240,800 deaths on Wednesday, reports ANI.

Japan’s central government plans to work with local authorities to step up counter-cluster measures to prevent the spread of coronavirus infections, public broadcaster NHK reported, without attribution.

Mexico has a total of 986,177 cases, according to data released by the Health Ministry Wednesday night. Deaths rose 588 to 96,430. The ministry says 35% of general Covid-19 beds are occupied, reports Bloomberg.
