Despite surge in cases, people flout Covid-19 rules in Delhi

Union health minister Dr Harsh Vardhan through video conferencing urged seven states- Maharashtra, Uttarakhand, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura Meghalaya and Goa to focus on effective management of coronavirus cases in order to reduce deaths in the first 24, 48 or 72 hours.

On Thursday, India’s Covid-19 tally climbed to 8,683,916 after 47,905 fresh cases and 550 more related deaths were registered in the last 24 hours. The total cases include 128,121 deaths, 489,294 active cases and over 8 million recoveries, according to the Union health ministry’s dashboard.

The total active cases remained below the 500,000-mark for the second consecutive day and they constitute 5.73 per cent of the total caseload.

Union health minister Dr Harsh Vardhan through video conferencing urged seven states- Maharashtra, Uttarakhand, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura Meghalaya and Goa to focus on effective management of coronavirus cases in order to reduce deaths in the first 24, 48 or 72 hours. The chief ministers and health ministers of these states briefed Vardhan on the containment, surveillance and treatment of Covid-19 cases.

Meanwhile, the global Covid-19 tally has now climbed to 52,416,368 out of which over 1.28 million people have died. The death toll in UK on Wednesday night crossed the 50,000-mark, which is the highest in Europe. The UK is now the fifth country in the world to register over 50,000 deaths after United States, India , Brazil and Mexico.

17 new cases push Andamans' Covid-19 tally to 4,494

The coronavirus tally of Andaman and Nicobar Islands rose to 4,494 on Thursday as 17 more people tested positive for the infection, a health official said. Sixty patients have succumbed to the infection so far, he added, reports PTI.
